Default leaking dry storage hatch, got a fix?

I've got two small dry boxes in the back of my bay boat. They don't stay very dry at all... If it rains or any little splash over will cause your dry goods to get pretty wet. There is very little warp in the hatches, so I tried weather stripping at first for a better seal. This has helped tremendously, but around the hinge I still have some cracks for the water to drain into. I've only put the stripping on the bottom groove and may try the top as well. But wanted to ask, have any of you had the same problem with a successful solution? Thanks in advance.

Can you install twist to close or open type cabinet latches on the hatch covers to pull tight against the seal? ( Search "marine hatch latches".)

Or put dry goods inside dry-bags.

It really doesn't sound like the typical area one would place things they expect or need to keep dry.

I've got the same issue and was planning on adding the weather stripping as well.

I'll add pictures tomorrow after fishing. There is already twist top hatch, and they are definitely supposed to be dry storage.
