Default If I can't find a Calcutta 263...

What would compare?

Let me back up a little. I will be in the market in the spring. I fish the Florida panhandle. I would like a do-all boat that gives a good ride in the typical chop we have (always closely spaced). The Calcutta 263 really intrigues me...All but the new boat price. I need to be under $70k.

Problem: I never see these for sale, and I am not patient enough to wait a year or two for one to pop up. With that being said, any other boats that would compare well?

Thanks,
CSize

I'm also looking at the cats, fishing out of Orange Beach mostly so I know what u mean about the tight chop at times. Check out the tideline 23 . They have a pretty lengthy thread on THT. Looks really nice and I believe it was around your budget.

well if you're looking fairly new, yes the prowler 25, will prob be my next ride. The calcutta has very low sides, prowler is a bit higher, more offshore oriented. Prowler 25 also competes with Calcutta in fuel economy. Perhaps an older 25 Seacat, tons of room and storage, only downside would be age and hull design has a lower bow and can take some water. TwinVee if you are looking for a more bare bones boat. TwinVee quality really does not impress though.

25' Ameracat would do the job for you and you could buy new for $70k.

For very close to your budget, you might consider the 22 compmillennia, the photo is actually a cat vantage out of the same mold. There is a Calcutta 263 often next to us at that particular sandbar. Not much size difference between the two. I am wider and a lot of the extra length is bracket. I can certainly do everything he can and you mentioned with maybe a little less draft , and a lot faster. I couldn't find a used calcutta either appears that no one gets rid of them . Either way, you definitely will love being in a cat.

I love the calcutta's.. Fish on the often. What I like is the stability on the hook and layout, big wide gunnels.

The next boat to me for the application of Tampa Bay (where I am) is the Parker 25SE. Not a cat-hull but similar in layout.

Bearhos, I'm in the heart of parker and jones brothers country and have owned and fished both. The mod v is efficient, but will beat your teeth out in a tight chop, even with tabs. Glided by several this windy weekend in my cat. No comparison. A friend likened the feeling on the hook to sitting on the patio.

Way I figure is that if I can run my SV2100 in the gulf chop, a bigger beamier boat will be ok.

I know its not the same ride, but how many of us weekend warriors on the gulf need to be able to run in 3ft chop? If its 3s out, I am stayin in...

I agree with the Tideline 23 as the do-it-all boat. Everything else is offshore oriented.
