Default Hey Contender< you still out there?

Wondering if the Contender rep is still watching this website? Had a question about if a 99 Contender will allow for the installation of 4 strokes? Thanks in advance
Someone mentioned that they weren't built for 4 strokes and I guess I don't understand full what that means?

Do some searching. Its been covered extensively. I have them on my 31 with very little modifications.

If a rep is watching, and if he is smart, he won't poke his head up.

THT'rs like to play Whac-A-Mole with reps. They come here to try and do good but sadly get beaten down to the point they have to leave.

I did back in 2006 when I was re-powering. 25 Open, 27 Open they said no way on 4 strokes (which is why I called). Can you do it? Absolutely. There's also the new Yamaha 200, 4 cylinder that weighs less than my 250 Optis. Wasn't a choice back when I did it or I would have seriously considered it.

I've seen too many older 31s with 4 stroke power to make me think it's a problem on that hull.

I mentioned your boat was not built for four strokes. That is why I mentioned go with yamahas ,not verado s because they are less weight. The new 300 yamahas are only 562 lbs when hpdi 300 2 strokes were only 540 lbs (which many older ones were rigged with as an example).. So you will only be adding 22 lbs per engine. There were many 31's rigged with four strokes before they made the changes to the hull late in 06, but Verados are starting to push it IMO. Late in 06 they extended the planing surface, raised the deck to keep water off the deck under a heavy load, and they strengthened the transom. I have owned 4 contenders and have ridden in many. I have rode in a 31 that was older like yours, and it rode a little more bow light than my 07 model that I owned. That is why I'd say go with the lighter engines. Hope this helps.

The "in-line 4" f200 is only 100lbs lighter than the v6 f200. I went with the v6 on my 21 contender.

100 x2 is 200!!! Quite a difference Going from my old Yammies at ~465 to the Optis at 517, I noticed a significant difference, even @ ~50 lbs/ motor. Going with 2 of those old V-6 4 strokes over the old 2 strokes these hulls were designed for is getting close to 300-400 lbs extra. Single motor applications are quite different.

Not sure what your logic is in your post? as the OP has a completely different boat than you.

Agree - not as much of a problem with a older style 31 (now called a 32T) as it is putting 4-stroke v6's on an older style 27 (now a 27T).
