Default Outboard Autopilots?

I have tried to find a Raymarine S1000 autopilot for my 20' CC but seems they are no longer made and I could not find any store that still carried them. Is there a replacement or alternative that is in the same price range - $1000? I was not able to find anything south of $2500.

Apparently you don't fish alone or make long runs in your boat, otherwise you wouldn't be such a smart ass!

I have run my boat for 7 years without one but when trolling by yourself it is real convenient to be able to work the rods while holding a route. A friend of mine has one and swears by it....by the way if you knew my boat they are about as basic as you can get....

I agree. There are times when I would like to have one on my 20' CC. A friend has AP on his 39' Riviera. When drifting for tilefish and other deep drop species, we use it to go back to where we started a drift, or to move to another set of numbers. I can think of lots of reasons to put AP on a smaller boat.

Ap is the best thing ever to have on a boat. I don't even use the steering wheel on the sea vee except to dock.

Fellas' get ahold of me and we will get a package together for you. There is no reason that a 20 ft boat shouldn't have an auto pilot and a 50 footer should!⚓

I'm thinking of putting one on my 24' bay boat. There are many time when you're alone that an AP frees you up to do some other task. Yes you still have to pay attention. While trolling it's a major help.

AP is like cruise control on a car. Once you've experienced it, you'll never have another boat without it.

It's common, I have one, frees me up on the troll, is like having an extra person. Not sure how the size of the vessel makes any difference at all? I cruise the icw adjusting steering from the bow by remote. It's awesome

Maybe an AP is not practical to negotiate the canals of Suzhou in your Chinese junk, but anybody who fishes will appreciate one regardless of the size of his boat.

I would be interested on installing one on my Cape Horn. I had one years ago on a 20' CC, it was made by Raymarine (I don't remember the model) and more or less just held a course. My fishing buddies have a hard time keeping a straight line while I check the spread. I've had to cut and re-tie more than I would be willing to admit.

I would put an autopilot on any boat that I planned on taking any further than the end of the canal. Mine has been on the fritz for the last few trips. It was absolutely miserable fishing without it. I finally got it working again 2 weeks ago and could not be any happier. Absolutely no reason not to put one on a 20' boat.

I'd love one but installing it next to all the other stuff down there ain't going to happen.
