Default 200 HPDI Fuel???

Eally simple question, but I just realized that I am not sure which grade fuel to run in a 200 HPDI. I would assume that it would be 89 octane. I used to run 89 octane in my 250 HPDI, but just wanted to make sure with these engines. I would look at the manual, but as I bought the boat used I don't have one. thanks for the help

You can download the manual from the Yamaha web site:

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard...d_manuals.aspx

In it you will find that your engine requires a minimum of 86 octane.

I have been running 89 in my 250 HPDI since I got it and have no intentions of changing.

I'm pretty sure my manual says 87, I have heard of some problems people have had with running higher octane. I had 1000 trouble free hours on my last set and always used 87.

Higher octane actually has a slower burn (more controlled) and therfore if it is used in an engine that doesn't require it (i.e. lower compression) it can cause the engine to run less effficiently. That said, higher octanes also tend to use higher detergent levels which I why I use 89 octane. It's middle of the road for octane, won't cause running problems and generally has higher detergent levels than regular.

just my .02
