Default Live Well Leaking??

Hey Guys, I noticed that when I turn off my Live Well pump, the water drains out with in 5 min of the pump being off.. The dealer sent me another plug and it FITS REALLY TIGHT, so I dont think its leaking from the drain plug... Any thoughts? It doesnt drain when the pump is running ,, stays full but as soon as I turn it off the water is GONE! Sometimes we wanted to use it as a cooler and not have the pump running all the time..

well you could color your water and see where it's coming out, Mine is set up different as instead of a plug I have a tube that is like 2 foot long (above the full line) that act's like a plug when I want to drain I pull the tube

With that much water leaking you should see it at the thru hull. Or your bilge pump would be coming on if the water is leaking into the bilge from the drain not being sealed or if you have a light in the live well that is not sealed.

Take a water hose and fill the live well while on the trailer. That should show the leak.

Default Seen regulator do the same thing on their live well

Install through hull fitting with No back ring. just silicone I believe. Seen tops of under deck live wells not sealed to floor and leaking into bilge.

Sounds like the livewell fill is at the bottom of the livewell. If thats the case, its backflowing through the pump back out of the boat.

That makes sense!! I don't have a trailer so can't pull it out of the water!! Thank you guys!!! I think it's going back through the pump! The fill is on the bottom and the led is sealed good!!

You could stop that with a regular bath tub flat drain plug.

You need to install a check valve or just keep your pump running while you have bait.

If the water fill hole is in the bottom like the drain plug in a bathtub, you can cover it. Like this.

I'm a live bait fanatic. Mine used to fill from the top. I reconfigured it to fill from the bottom and drain from the top so the entire well gets recycled and you have no dead area. Leave it the way it is and just leave the pump running.

Well when I have bait I leave the tube out and the top fill like spray's across the top and the bottom empty's the tank (like 40 gallon?)...I have never lost any bait. I wouldn't want to change it unless there was a problem

Well, mine fills from the top and
drains from the top and bottom....and
is pressurized, and I can adjust the
amount of drain from top and or bottom.

You cant see the bottom of my wells when I live chum. There are so many misconceptions about livewells that I have personally mythbusted its rediculous. The vast majority of livewells couldnt do what my wells can because the general boat buying public doesnt understand what fish need to stay alive in a confined space. They think you need current going in a circle....good luck with that.

If you just want to fill it up and not keep pumping, open your bilge and close the valve for the through hull.

Open the hatch to the bilge and close the valve "that had damn well better be" between the water source and the live well pump.
