I went to the website. Absolutely. Fing. Disgusting. If this is what sportfishing is, I think I'd rather find something else to do. What a POS.

Don't forget selling sailfish. He's a real piece of work. Hell 20 years ago I was working on charter and headboats in the same area (even across the dock from him) and he had the same rep back then as he does now, keep your distance.

My point, Jim, had nothing to do with killing a fish - most places don't offer "skin" mounts anyway, and all you really need for a mount are some measurements, which does not involve killing the fish. (which I am in favor of not doing - let them live).

My point has to do solely with hocking customers to mount their catch, which the crew get commission's - all charter boats do it - how strident they are can vary from boat to boat - that was solely my point about Mark.

CBS just had him on the 6pm local news. Did not catch the whole clip, but he hauled up a ray from 1k feet.
Emailed CBS suggesting they do their research before putting him on the news. Hope others do too.
This is one person that does NOT need air time.

Can you hang an animal that large and have it survive? It looks dead hanging there.

What's the purpose of the fighting chair hanging over the transom? Seems like it would hinder the wiring of a fish, just a macho thing perhaps.

I was wondering the same thing but if you go to trip advisor for reviews, he has forty-something five star reviews. I don't know if he wrote them himself or offered people discounts if they wrote glowing comments. But if prospective charters only looked at that, they would think he is the best. Thank goodness for forums like this.

Check out the book "Fish the Chair If You Dare: The Ultimate Guide to Giant Bluefin Tuna Fishing" by Greg Beacher. It's an older book and highlights the may benifits of have a chair mounted like that.

Any press is good press for this guy. He thrives on the notoriety and his out of town clients don’t know any better.

Sadly his approach works pretty well. I’ve never fished out of Government Cut and not seen him out with a charter. Can’t say the same for many other guides in Miami that actually conduct their business with respect for the fishery and fellow fisherman.

NOAA/SAFMC is doing all they can right now to ban fishing in large sections of south Miami and the Keys. Not a good time for this guy’s antics down here to become national news.

If you read the comments on yelp, it's horrible reviews for a longtime until some of his people start multi-responding. Hilarious and obvious.

I think he gets a lot of charters from people who just aren't really fishermen. You'll see tons of frat bros and other dudes who just want to go out and catch a big fish, and Mark usually accomplishes that. He doesn't teach conservation to ignorant clients the way a guide SHOULD.
