Default Port St. Lucie area

I am traveling from NC to the keys in March. Looking at the map Port St. Lucie is about 10.5 hour drive. Does anyone have any experiance with staying in that area? I am pulling my 22ft bay boat and am looking for a good area to park it overnight. I have family flying into Ft. Laurderdale and plane on picking them up and jumping on the turnpike to pass the miami area. If anyone has any suggestions or hotel recomendations that are accomodating to secure boat parking I would really appreciate it.

You want to stay in Ft.Pierce or Stuart, not PSL. Jensen Beach has some okay stuff also. A few good hotels on the inlet in Ft.Pierce, Pirate's Cove is in the pocket in Port Salerno which is about 10 min to the St.Lucie Inlet (Stuart).
Indian River Plantation would be another option in Stuart.

Agree, stay in fort pierce, okeechobee rd is what your looking for. Major 95/turnpike interchange where many truckers stay the night so you should have plenty of room to park. That, or keep driving south till you hit palm beach gardens..about 45 minutes south of fort pierce.

The fact of the matter is that any of places mentioned have been targeted by boat thieves shopping for big center console boats and / or Yamaha's. There's not much in the way of hotels in Port Saint Lucie but if you're just staying overnight there is a place off Saint Lucie West blvd thats in an ok area. I'd feel much better staying there than anywhere in Fort Pierce.

The places mentioned above are much farther east and would be great if you're planning on being on the water. There is a place or two in Palm City that look safe enough overnight. Farther South in Jupiter, the hotel right off 95 is NOT somewhere I'd feel ok leaving my boat. Jupiter is great just not that place. (Fairfield Inn?) It gets worse once you get past PGA blvd.

Are you looking for a place to stop over or somewhere to put the boat in the water?

There is a hotel just off 95 at the Kanner Hwy exit.

95 to Indian town rd in Jupiter, drop onto turnpike to 595 FTL. Easy.

I agree, I'd avoid Ft. Pierce. There are a couple hotels off St. Lucie west blvd, close to 95. Not a bad area. In Stuart there is a courtyard Marriott, off Kanner Hwy and I-95 also in a nice area.

Thanks for the replies. I am just looking a place to stay overnight to break up the drive. Just heard that south florida is not the place to stay overnight with a boat. Excited about the trip but just nervouse about my boat. I would hate to have my trip ruined prior to getting there.

stuart just had a bunch of lower units and dashes cut out. Sad state of affairs. If you want to go a little more you could keep your boat in my yard EDIT REMOVED LOCAL .we don't have the best hotels( except for resorts) but there are some new clean ones.

As a Stuart resident, I'd agree with this 100%. I would not recommend staying anywhere in Ft Pierce close to 95, ESPECIALLY the Okeechobee road interchange.

This comes to mind when I think of the safest place I'd want to stay in the area when towing a boat: http://homewoodsuites3.hilton.com/en...WHW/index.html very nice upscale area with shopping right nearby.

To boot, it's right next to some darned good eating, a Publix (food store) and has extremely easy access to I-95.

Welcome to being in range of the 3rd world inhabitants.

A 33 Hydrasports was stolen 2 streets over from me when I lived in town. From a small yard squeezed next to the house. They have them in Miami running to cuba and back or in Hialeah in a warehouse stripped out. In fact, if stripping the put a crew in the boat while trailering.

Ya, I thought you wanted a place on the water. I recind my last statement, dont stop off 95 in FtPierce, in fact don't stop anywhere in St. Lucie County off 95.

You guys are crazy. He is suppose to drive past Port Saint Lucie and stay in South Florida instead. PSL is so much safer. From PSL the farther you drive South the worse it gets. Saint Lucie West has very safe Hotels right next to 95 . This one is West of 95 a few blocks and most residents do not know its there it is so hidden.

Guys, thanks for all the replies. The PGA village is what I was originaly looking at. Hopefully I will be fine. I bought one of the two way alarms. I found a deal on one. Figured as much as I am on the road with my boat it was a worth while investment.

As a St. Lucie County resident most of my life, I do not appreciate the opinions of some posters here. Yes, boats and tow vehicles get stolen/ broken into here, but no more than anywhere else. That said, there is a hotel at the St. Lucie West Blvd exit, I think it's a Hampton Inn. There's plenty of places to eat close by and right off the interstate.
