ready to buy 2004capehorn 21 need input
It is a 2004 cape horn 21 ft. With a 2004 225 yamaha 2 sroke with around 700 hours. This is a very clean boat. Been covered when not used and i can tell. He is asking $23 but is not firmon it. Just wanted some thoughts on the boat and price. I dont want to insult him but is $18-$19000 to little. Any input is appreciated.

Great boat, I am a little biased...........any electronics? How's the trailer?

I think $23K is not bad, but I don't think offering him $18K-$19K is insulting don't know if you don't ask.

rbhankins001 01-21-2013 01:40 PM

Sounds high to me. I'd keep looking.

(And I've owned 3 CH's).

Jrgoss0311 01-21-2013 07:06 PM

Trailer is in great shape and it comes with gps and fishfinder. He has taken great care of this boat and the only reason hes getting rid of it is for his new 24ft cape horn.
Rbhankins... what would you offer? 18-19k or less/more?

rbhankins001 01-21-2013 10:05 PM

Considerably less than 18k.

Wake Turbulence 01-21-2013 10:25 PM

I say you get a 24 also...

sailfish18 01-21-2013 10:59 PM

Those are great little boats, saw tons running around the Destin area when we lived there.

I'd start at 15k or 16k cash (if you can). These are very hard times with a shaky future ahead. If you insult him he needs to grow up, 16k is a ton of money.

Jrgoss0311 01-21-2013 11:26 PM

He says the blue book value on it is 26k. Im sure thatbis high end though.i appreciate the help. Im gonna get with him and see. I will let yall know.

stumprunner 01-21-2013 11:39 PM

Did you look it up or take his word? I did quick NADA. Looks like boat and motor with GPS and t-top, bout $16,500. Not including trailer

stumprunner 01-21-2013 11:44 PM

There is a 2005 on boattrader for $20,500 with 4 stroke 225. The one your looking at is over priced.

Jrgoss0311 01-22-2013 12:46 AM

Where is the 2005 located at? Definitley want to check that out. I am just going by what said but havent had a chance to check for myself.

Just a heads up search my user id in the boats for sale section.

Last year I sold a CH 24 with 1 year old yamaha F150 twin four strokes for like 23-24k (I can't remember exactly). That was a fish rigged boat ready to go with no issues whatsoever.

The boat market is soft. It is winter. The boat in OP has a 9 year old 2 stroke on it. You are going to be putting some real money into that motor in the next few years (or sooner) OR repowering it.

My money would be buying the boat for what I would feel comfortable repowering it for. That is gonna happen sooner than later.

If you can spend in the low 20's you need to be patient and find one a little bigger with twins under warranty.

I promise you the come up for sale regularly. The guys with cash sit and wait. When it pops up JUMP ON IT.

How I bought all my boats. I've even turned a profit on some of them (but lost my ass on the rest lol).

Spend some time on boattrader, craigslist, etc and get a feel for what the boats are selling for (selling, not asking price). Once you know the market you will know a great deal when you see it.

Emailed him an offer of 17k and said that he is wanting 19k. But we will see what happens. Stumprunner-i looked at that other cape horn for 20k. And called them up and they have already turned down offers for 18.5k. And its a repo. The guy sent me some pics and it looks kinda rough. Definitley not cared for.

stumprunner 01-23-2013 07:27 PM

Yeah, that site sells repos. Could possibly get a dog.

stumprunner 01-23-2013 07:30 PM

I guess 18-19 would not be too bad, not many 21 cape horns out there. Might look a little more unless you really want 21 cape now.

Bullshipper 01-23-2013 09:48 PM

$19K sounds good if its set up like you like with outriggers, good trailer, electronics and its clean like you say, but now that has counter offered, tell him you will make one last try with him to do a deal, and take a slightly lower shot.

This is the newer hull version, right?

Those 225's last forever (like 5000 hrs) so I kinda disagree about repowering cost being a big factor.

mike carrigan 01-24-2013 05:40 AM

Donknow if the hull has changed or not from late 90'S
If it's the same 21' hull, no liner, that existed in the late 90'S it's one good hull and about as big as most 23' you'll find.
My oldest son was sales manager at Stamas and I a long time Pro-Line troop. He would not agree to a Pro-Line, I would not agree to a Stamas so we bought a 21' Cape Horn and powered it with a 225 Yammi 4/S.
Great hull. Big, fat, roomy hull that would take plenty of abuse and had a ton of interior room.
That from a competitor. Actually two competitors.

As to price.
Well, take it from someone who's been pricing and selling fiberglass for over fifty years as Gospel.
The price is never-ever low enough.

I believe the 21 hull changed in 2000' since then they have changed the console and a few other tweaks.

More importantly, they made it a drier hull with more bow flare.

Good luck with your final decision - I'm gonna be looking for a 17 Cape Horn soon (but not now) with at least a low time 115 four stroke. As far as I'm concerned this is the only boat that I can use on the flats, lakes and offshore (10-15 NM) under the right WX conditions. I'll just have to be careful and do 100% of my flats fishing on the incoming tide as Capes are heavy. My 1997 V6 Isuzu Rodeo should pull it OK as it's advertised as having a towing capacity of 4500 lbs.
Again -- good luck with your purchase -- wise choice getting a CH!
