Still working on fixing the trolling motor. The steering motor seized up over the winter and instead of replacing the transmission I found the right 6v motor and got it all tested, but the epoxy I used to hold the gear on the shaft isn't setting up solid, still soft 16 hrs later.

Glassed in the stern floatation "cubes" in a Cape Dory we have in for repair, we had to cut out a the water soaked balsa deck replace the rotted transom and basicly short of laying up a new hu rebuit the boat ! she is a peach!

Went to the mechanics today. Water got into my gear case and that's what caused it to blow. They also told me that the gear case was one of the Chinese ones. I had some friends that worked at another mechanics shop and I used them instead of our usual place. Even though I was able to get 2-1/2 years out of the Chinese lower unit, I wish that my "friends" would have told me it was a Chinese case. All I knew was that it was a remanufactured unit. No wonder it was such a good deal. So now I'm on the market for another gear case. Anybody know of a good deal somewhere? The motor is a 20" 2004 OptiMax, 200hp.

Waxed yesterday, bottom paint and zincs today. Once I figure out how to re-bed the porthole windows it will go in the water.

Default three days

Splashed Friday and flat bay have way to smooth first ride Drove up to where we live and checked things out with first mate wife and sales rep Matt. Did some fun tight turns and varied speeds up to 45

Sat launched first time alone with first mate and guest. Drove to Newport with great ride then lost electronics. Old fashioned nav on way back. Easy docking of night before became difficult with tide going out and decent wind into enclosure. Real bad skill set and first mate yelling didn't help actually did 180 in dock space had back out hit a dock and next attempt got in safely. Boat tech met me to go over new eltronics, failure radar fish finder and radio, no solution found

Sunday went out, cool but nice in enclosure. zoomed around bit, tried new anchor and the threw a few casts, had some cheese and crackers. Nephews wanted ride. Went back and executed fine docking maneuver and picked the new teen crew. Went out near Newport war college and let the boys drive in middle of open bay to give them a first chance on water noroblems and they had no problem wearing inflatable vests went back to point where we live and anchored. Ate fished and relaxed. Lastly ended with a fast run to dock and nice docking finish

All in all 8 hours over weekend 3 out 4 docking success, no scratches. It was an A plus except for electronics (where fixed today) First mate really enjoyed it which was the big win for me. Fishing this weekend when stripers come in droves.

Spent a ridiculous amount to do the tuneup (tomorrow I hope) on the engine. After that, 2014 season goes full swing!

Gonna try and replace a Lenco trim tab actuator by myself (never done it) and put a coat of wax on the boat...might replace one speaker and put a new spray nozzle on my fresh water tank hose.
