Default YETI COOLERS- Not all they are cracked up to be

Whats going on fellow fishermen/boaters.

Im writing this in hopes of getting the word out about the ridiculous customer service from this company and HOPE I can get some help to make a stand against this company.

In May of 2008 we ordered a 270 qt Yeti directly from the company (with credit card statement to prove it). It is a roughneck series and the price on it was $824.00. The companies slogan at the time, and you can still find this on their page, is "The last cooler you will ever buy". This is a cooler that has been stored in the garage, where everyone stores coolers, and has been on a boat less than a dozen times in the 4 years we have owned it.

About 2 years ago we started to see a little warping around the top of the actual cooler (not the lid). At first it was not bad but has only progressed to the point we noticed it isn't even making a proper seal anymore, essentially burning ice faster and making it no better than any other cooler. At this point we contacted the company and their response was less than acceptable.

They claim the roughneck series coolers only had a 3 year warranty, but if you look on their website under warranty information it says "ALL PRODUCTS manufactured by Yeti come with a 5 year warranty against defects in material and workmanship." When we originally called they also said this was an issue they have seen with the roughneck series and have since redesigned the coolers and the new lineup doesn't have this problem. The rep that we originally spoke to actually suggested putting a ratchet strap on the cooler to attempt to fix it. Ummmm.....seriously???? We have an 800$ cooler and their best suggestion was to keep a ratchet strap on it.

Yeti originally said that our cooler was out of warranty and the most they would do is give us a 250$ credit towards the purchase of a new cooler but only if we mail them the lid of our current cooler. WHAT?!?!? 250$?????? they think giving us 250$ for a 800+$ cooler that is only 4 years old and is virtually unused is fair? And on top of that we have to pay for shipping a lid back to them so our current cooler is unusable (and would cost us 75-100$ to ship the 5 ft lid).
#1- buIIshit deal......enough said

#2- Who wants another cooler from yeti when they don't last OR back their product?

We gave them ample opportunities to make this right and when they didn't we started letting everyone know what they did. Anytime we posted on facebook them deleted us. So much so that they banned our family from commenting. We did not lie at all or try to slander the company, we simple shared our story with current and potential customers.

They offered us another deal.....the original 250$ but now we had to ship the entire cooler to them BUT they would pay for shipping. STILL buIIshit. We have told them 100 times we will accept nothing less than a new cooler, for more than one reason. Reason 1 is its an $800 cooler and we expected more, reason 2 they have had issues with this before telling us this is a manufacturing defect, and reason 3 because their website says its still under warranty and they claim these coolers will last forever but it ended up lasting about as long as an igloo cooler from wally world.

I will keep everyone posted on how this goes. I don't expect much from this company anymore and those who has stuck up for us on their facebook page has been banned so they clearly don't want the word getting out......so we are getting the word out through these forums. Please feel free to email, mail, call, send FB messages, etc, etc, etc. to yeti saying we as sportsman will not accept this. If you mention the Odom family (us) they will know what warranty claim it is in reference to.

THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There have been allot of similar claims about "Warping"....that they don't close right with a good seal. I'm gonna take a good look at mine now that you mention it. I would say shame on YETI !! For what you paid or what anyone else pays for them, YETI should pay to send them back and replace/repair quicker then a greased duck on a slip and slide.

I'd be shipping the cooler back all right. In tiny little pieces with a message to shove them where the sun don't shine.

You have every right to be pissed off.

There's a reason they stopped making the roughneck series. The plastic they use has no memory so when it sits for a long time it tends to warp especially In head bc the design of it. The newer ones have a better structural grid. That being said I have engel. There right down the road. I broke a latch told them asked how much they said come get one. Can't beat that.

thanks RnR,
I agree, take the time to check your cooler good for ANYTHING. If you find something, get it replaced immediately because the longer you wait the more of a hassle it is (as we found out).

If you have a minute we would really appreciate it if you could send them a facebook message or contact them through their site and let them know that kind of customer service will not be tolerated.

There is a pretty small group that are willing to pay the kind of money we have on a cooler, and we expect a lot more out of the company. We know that in any company, there are going to be some design flaws, or bad products put out. We have been die hard Yeti fans all the way until they handled this claim like these are cheap coolers and we can just afford to buy another one.

Default Yeti was a central Texas founded company,

but was bought out by a group of New York investors earlier this year. It would surprise me if you were dealing with the original owners, due to their upstanding reputation. Hopefully not. Good luck in getting this problem worked out.

let them know how you feel. nothing will change until they see money being lost, hopefully this will help out the next guy. I dont think they will change anything with us. Just passing on our experience.

That is horrible that they wont do more for you about this so far. I hate when you spend a lot of money on something and dont get the reputation they pass on. While trailering my boat i hit a tree and it snapped my two year old trevela shimano rod. I emailed them if theres anything that could be done, where I would happily pay for. Next day, they sent me a label to ship out my rod and replaced for free. Thats what yeti needs to do here.

swifty and maxim we understand its a lot of money but ALL we do is fish and hunt. We do a ton of overnighters and have no problem spending top dollar on equipment that will keep our fish or meat colder for longer.

BUT when we spend that kind of money we fully expect the companies to back the products. In most cases the customer service is lightyears ahead of cheaper companies but this apparently is an exception. They stand to loose a ton of potential customers all because they are cheap and dont mind screwing customers.

To be honest we dont believe they are going to change anything for us. They have made is clear they will not replace the cooler and that tells me they dont mind screwing customers. BUT that wont keep me from telling EVERY SINGLE PERSON who is even considering purchasing a cooler like this to find a better company, one that will stand behind the statements they make.
