Hello All-
I had new electronics installed in my Hydrocat a few months back including a new Garmin touchscreen GPS.
I lent the boat to an friend who left the batteries on and may have left the GPS and VHF on over night.
The next morning, the console was on fire.
Ive never heard of this happening before and was hoping to get some insight as to how this could happen so I can avoid this type of thing in the future.
any thoughts would be appreciated. The damage is probably $15,000 to $20,000, the engines and hull survived.
I am debating whether to fix the boat or transplant the 4 strokes and put them on my 289 Intrepid hull.
Thanks,
Jake

Nice boat! That's really 15k worth of damage? Looks like just the console is damaged. A lot more then just the hull and engines survived. The seat doesn't even look damaged. Maybe 15k including replacing all the electronics and wiring in the console. But fiberglass damage doesn't look bad at all.
Maybe just buy a new factory console? The wiring and more so the new electronics depending on what your or originally had will be the big costs.
Did you like this hull? Is the intrepid already rigged with engines? If you liked this boat I say keep it and fix it.

What do you think the cost is to rewire a 30 ft CC, not including the electronics?

Thanks. The Hull is great. it handles the seas much better than my intrepid. the Co went out of BZ 10 years ago, so no luck with console. the intrepid is just the hull, no engines. I actually took the engines off the Intrepid to put on the Cat.
