Default Suzuki 70 beeps

Getting beeps every 5 seconds, or about that.
I don't think it's overheating since the exhaust is cool and beeps start within seconds of starting cold engine.
It's a 4 stroke 70 from the late 1990s or early 2000s I think.
Saw colorful film on the water like gas or oil behind the boat when we got in. Sometimes there's a little of this but this was more - 2'x5' about.

What can be causing the beeps?

A series of beeps? How many? Sounds like it may be the programmed 100 hour reminder notice that it's time to change oil, filter, & lower unit gear oil.

It keeps beeping. We went back in slowly, driving for at least 1 hour and it beeped the whole way.

Still sounds like the oil change reminder beep.

Turn on the ignition key.
Pull the little red emergency stop switch plate.
Pull up that switch knob three times within 10 seconds.
You should hear a short beep.
Turn off the ignition key.

If the beeping stops, it was your oil change reminder light.
Put the little red plate back in the emergency stop switch.

Change your oil!
