Odd ball thought, but since the steering station is to Starboard, the Starboard Rudder has the extra fin, and there are no trim tabs maybe it was changed/added so the boat would run evenly with only a single helmsman onboard?

Default Painting the Engines

Since Corndog38 has been on me lately about getting my motors put back together tomorrow I plan on starting that process. Today I went to Northern Tool and purchased this mobile cart. I'm going to use it to hang small things like my motor mounts while I prime/paint them. Once I finish priming/painting parts I'll just roll it back into the garage, close the garage door, and give it time to dry.

Default Primer

I went to purchase primer today so I can start painting the motors and parts for the motors. After I explained to them what I'm about to do they suggested SPRAY primer. Before I buy it I wanted to see if anyone on THT have ever used this type of primer? Why would they suggest a GREEN primer?

Outobie, I like your THT name. What's the meaning behind it?

Zinc Chromate on aluminum, yes........but can also be used on ferrous metal, except for galvanized metal I believe .....its naturally a yellow/green color...the stuff is very toxic so wear PPE on your skin and don't inhale the stuff....it can be bought in gallons as well...PPG and Rustoleum also made this stuff in the past
Lone Ranger and NOLA Rick like this.

Would you use it on a engine block? OR do you think a spray can of Rustoleum primer will work good on a engine block/parts?

I don't know how it would hold up on a hot engine block...you would have to ask the manufacturer...I've always used either spray can engine paint years ago when I was younger because it was cheap or a 2 part paint from a manufacturer like PPG ( I believe it was called Concept) which they recommended....but that was for car engines....never had to paint a marine engine...on one side you want rust prevention and on the other you want to eliminate peeling from heat......I would send an email or call their 1-800 info line and confirm if its good for marine exposure and engine heat.....some formulations may very well be suited for that. I don't think its a one size fits all from the various manufacturers.

I have two videos that I took yesterday that I will like to share on THT. How do you upload videos?

I would not use zinc chromate primer for any high temperature application. I would highly recommend it for anything else.

What type of primer would you suggest?

High temp paint can usually be sprayed directly on the engine. Read the can, or instructions, of whatever paint you’re going to use.

I would use a damp proof red lacquer primer or Duplicolor makes a self-etching primer that covers well and dries in about 30 minutes. None of the engine is going to get hot enough to burn the paint off except the area where the exhaust manifold bolts to the cylinder head.
