Rebirth of a 31' Fountain Te.....complete restoration!
So just started a tear down of a 1998 31' Fountain. She is being torn down to the bear bones, everything is being stripped, here is a list of what is being done with some major alterations......

Livewell is being moved to a new location, to give the back way more room
brand new t top with hard top
modified low profile bow rail
all cushions being re done
entire rig will be rewired
stainless rub rail
custom bucket seats
imron paint inside and out (custom job)
all new hardware
all plumbing replaced.
will be removing the gas tank hatch and console next week to replace all fuel lines.

you get the idea she is being refitted to the hilt. I will keep this thread updated as I move along with pictures. Here is where she is at so far.

Nice boat for a project like that. And nice shop to have to do it in.

FlyingCircus 11-22-2011 07:20 PM

Who is doing your T-top work?? Good looking project........

coastalfiberglass 11-22-2011 07:34 PM

Looking like it will be randy out in the northern neck.

I will also be selling the old t top from this rig. So if anyone is interested let me know. Its really in good shape some pitting but a good deal will also need new xanvas top or hard top

I am going to love this thread as I have a 2001 F31. The pics I have seen are already giving me ideas.

If you are going to keep the seating station, shoot some foam insulation around the box and it will serve as a great cooler......I did this and it works.

ScarabChris 11-22-2011 07:49 PM

I'll be watching! I love threads like this.

Also....nice work space. The weather won't slow you down. Though before you get into it too deep. Do yourself a favor.

Install a big flat screen TV high on the wall above the boat. Also install a nice sound system. And last but definitely not least. A nice big refrigerator to keep the beer cold!

This way you can watch the games or listen to music and knock back some cold ones while you work.

Also....having the TV and fridge full of beer will make your buddies come and hang out. Then you can put them to work.

This is my shop i work out of full time. Have the sound system, need the led tv, wife just got a new fridge so have a fridge finally, beer is always around.

Tireless i am thinking of ditching the helm seat leaning post, putting the batterys under the console. Looking at the todd miami helm seats for this one. Want to be able to sit and drive.

this is going to be fun to watch. we fished a 31 for 10 yrs. Ours was an open with the billfish leaning post livewell which I really liked.

Our good friends at Onslow Bay did us a huge favor and slid us in to rewire. I wish i had a before pic but here is the after.

the things we always wanted to do were Improve the raw water wash down, make fiberglass drop in boxes for the back instead of the plastic ones that always break, and figure out someway to improve access to pumps and such.

Can't wait to see the results.

Good Project!
I have a '94 and have it down to bare bones right now! Only thing is I'm jealous of your shop!!! I'm doing it all out under the sun! Are you gonna leave the stripes and hull as is, or new paint or graphics? I'm going all white. Also getting all ov the aluminum powder coated. Good luck!

Nice, looking forward to the progress.

This is your personal boat right?

I have a 31, and one thing i dont like is the look of the roof on the cuddy, makes it look rly old imo. Any plans on making it more flat, so it looks a little like the 38?

Where did you source your carbon? and how did you bend it like that?

Im in Sweden so i guess we have different sources.
I made a simple mold for the panel, then just laminated a panel. when i had the panel ready i covered it with carbon fibre (i wanted the structure of the fibre, so i did it after i got it out of the mold)
When the panel was ready i clearcoated it, with "non glossy" finnish to keep sun away from my eyes.

(sorry for bad spelling, english is not my language but i work on it)

I will be making the electronics panel flat with gps and ff flush mounted. This is my personal boat, i will be working on this in between other jobs, but plan on working pretty steady on it, as far as the top of the cabin i have never had a problem with it, i actually like the look. The livewell im thinking about putting up under the helm seat or back on the transom like the newer rigs, contender regulator and such. Im taking out the oil tanks as i got some yammy 4 strokes to put on it. Also plan on re routing the scuppers. Will be cutting a hatch to access the bilge better, it currently really has a shitty setup as far as access. All stripes will be removed, with paint all being re done. Thanks for the interest should be fun. If you have any pics or ideas please share always open to ideas.

I did the same thing with my baitwell. Removed it and placed a smaller one in the partition behind the old livewell. Put fold down seats across the back. Replaced the awful helm seat with captains' chairs, positioned so they work as a leaning post when offshore.
Check "my profile" for the pictures.

coastalfiberglass 11-23-2011 07:54 AM

Beach bill, that is the basic idea im going for. Nice job. Should make the back much bigger ditching that livewell.
