Salt,

What type of boat and how old is it?

Does the system run for about 12 seconds or so or longer? Does it stop running or just keep running?

If it stops running, then if you turn off the ignition switch does it run again?

Salt,

It sounds like there is a short somewhere, likely in the Rocker Switch. The very first thing I would do is to make sure that no stray wires or strands are making contact with the brass jumper straps and screws on the back of the switch. I would also operate the switch to see if I felt it sticking at all.

I don't think it could be the Auto Tab Retractor since it should only signal the pump to run when is senses 12 v positive being shut off on the small 22 gauge orange wire. You can see it on the left side in this picture:

But if there are no stray wires or sticking switch, then I would disconnect the orange 14 gauge wire that goes from the Auto Tab Retractor to positive 12 volts, this is where it gets power to operate. This wire is often connected to the back of the Rocker Switch. Then power up the boat and see if the problem is solved.

Here is the wiring for the Auto Tab Retractor;

Let me know what you find,

Tom

OK Salt,

When you are looking into it check the back of the Rocker Switch and make sure that the red, green and yellow wires from the Auto Tab Retractor are connected to the red, green and yellow locations on the back of your Rocker Sitch to make sure it is wired properly.

Here is where those connections are on the switch;

The strip with the "+" is were the power for the switch and usually the Auto Tab Retractor 14 gauge orange wire are connected.

Tom
I looked at the rocker switch seems fine, as soon as I turn the batteries on I hear the pump? so I unhooked the orange 22 gauge wire it stops the pump and things seem fine.
So I must need a new auto trim retractor???
Thank you Salt

Salt,

I would like to see why this unit failed. Can you remove it from the boat? You will still be able to use the Trim Tabs.

Send it to:

Bennett Marine
550 Jim Moran Blvd
Deerfield Beach, FL 33442
Attn: M.J. Thomas

Put your name address and phone number in with it.

Also send me a private message with your name so I can have M.J. keep an eye out for it.

We will send you a replacement.

Tom
