nj fishing saltwater "license"?
#1

ok, im confused.....last year i registered with the national registry(noaa)....and as of last month it was out of date....$15 bucks to renew....However, i just signed up for the NJ Saltwater Fishing Registry....free of charge........do i still need to renew the federal one?....according to the websites.....the NJSFR is NOT a license, so that would mean i need to renew the federal one?............I hear its a huge fine($300) if caught with out......

ReelNauti: I disagree...
A HMS license is for the boat not the individual angler. According to the state even if you registered with the Feds you must register with the state.
From NJ web site
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection established its own registry program, the New Jersey Saltwater Recreational Registry Program, to exempt saltwater recreational anglers fishing in New Jersey’s marine and tidal waters from the federal registry and the $15.00 federal registration fee imposed in 2011. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) implemented the New Jersey Saltwater Recreational Registry Program (NJSRRP) effective May 4, 2011 through Administrative Order No. 2011-05.
WHO NEEDS TO REGISTER?
NOTE: Anglers with a valid registration with the National Saltwater Angler Registry or have a valid license from another exempted state are required to register (for free) with the NJ Saltwater Recreational Registry Program. Registration with NJ will exempt you from having to register with the National Saltwater Angler Registry.

Your right...my bad.
I assumed since I had the federal registry, it would be covered.
It's stupid however, since the whole reason NJ implemented the registry was to comply with the feds. One should cover the other since the data supposedly ends up in the same database.

On March 31, 2011, The New York State (NYS) Legislature reversed the necessity for a Saltwater Recreational Fishing License. Therefore, you no longer need to purchase a license for saltwater fishing. Anglers 16 years of age and older will need to sign up for a non-fee registry.
If no further action is taken by the NYS Legislature come December 31, 2013, the fishing license will need to be purchased again. For additional information, visit the DEC website. Let’s hope the new regime stays on the ball with this. Thanks to all who worked to reverse this license. We can now enjoy this wonderful hobby the way we used to.
