Actually, I did forget the one rule I actually have.

"If you put something into the porta-potty, then you are taking the porta-potty home and cleaning it."

my rules:
-humor me and listen to the safety talk.
-if you come hung over and start blowin chunks 60 miles offshore tough shit dont get any on the deck.
-sharp hooks, sharp knives, sharp teeth dont be a hero or an asshole....common sense rules the day
-if its rough dont panic, ill let you know when its time to panic

other than that its all about relaxing, having fun, and enjoying ma nature

Some boat owners here have extensive lists and others have basic lists of rules. I can only conclude that some folks are meticulous and want everything to be in its place and that "foreign" material shouldn't be on the boat. Lots of good safety oriented rules which I agree with.
Bottom line for me:
1) There is 1 captain on the boat, that is me, follow my requests quickly if you know what to do, and, if not, ask a question quickly to understand what I meant.
2) There is no arguing with the captain, ask questions and take action
3) everyone need to know where safety gear is, how to use it, and know how to read the instruction sticker for sending a DSC emergency call on the VHF
4) have fun and help those who are not as comfortable as you
5) if you choose to be an asshole, I will become a bigger one that you, and you may find yourself swimming

This has been a "hot topic" for the last day. Very interesting to see all the ideas, strong opinion, and extreme variety.

in vary rare occassions I fish on other peoples boats and my one and only rule is:

- Dont fish on boats owned by people who have stupid rules 'cause stupid rules come from stupid people and I dont want to be onboard a megayacht (all 22 ft of it ) with such a captain in control.

some of the posts here would have been prime examples.

If you have to disclose rules to your passengers because you think they are morons, then maybe the moron is you having been stuck with all the morons. Just saying......

Some of you guys take this boating thig WAY TOO SERIOUS! Loosen up, have fun, you might enjoy it more.

The only rule on my boat is no bannanas. Other than that nothing illegal and you will be fine. I don't fish with IDIOTS.

after reading a few of these ... i appreciate some of the more stringent rulemakers due to my prior investments in boats. now, i never consider my boat an investment - i never expect to recoup any money out of it ever, it is simply a 'pleasure boat' and i structure my boating costs to what i can afford (honestly) to lose forever.

so my rules are:
1. no head, so you can put it overboard or hold it.
2. if you get seasick and i don't, i'll bring you in - and never take you out again.
3. you can get drunk, and puke. preferably no puking in the boat.
4. if you get pissed off fishing, don;t come - it is a pleasure trip.
5. if i wanted your money, you would be my customer - not on my boat.
6. if you bring drugs, and we get caught, i will personally eliminate your line of family in the finest Japanese Yakuza/Mafia traditions - starting with the youngest.

Have fun, be responsible and realize how incredibly blessed we are to be able to do this, or it will be your one and only trip.

Anything else just gets in the way of the experience

My rules... put the hammer down, turn up the music, and pop the beers.

Then break some rules so other anal boaters (preferably locals) get upset and start screaming at you as you do a fly by...
