Default Capilano U50 Valve (uniflow valve)

hey users:
Today seems to be one of those days that every customer is calling with the same question. In my usual fashion, I will post this question here, then, answer it....

All of the questions are centered around the older, Capilano, Uni-flow 50 valve.

The valve was discontinued in 1987. When the Capilano helms went through a re-design, the workings of the Uni-flow valve were built directly into the rear of the helm.

We only make a seal kit for this valve (Part # HS5158). The seal is not recommend for any valve that is heavily corroded, or, in a condition that will not allow a new seal to seal.

These are the main questions I get when this valve stops working;

Question: Can I replace it with a different valve?
Answer: There is no valve that we are aware of on the market to duplicate all the workings of the Uni-Flow valve

Question: What needs to be done if the valve is faulty?
Answer: As much as I do not like to say this, you must replace ALL steering stations with newer models, then, cap (or remove) the third line that goes to the uni-flow valve.

Question: What other options do I have?
Answer: I wish that there was more options, but unfortunately there is nothing that I know of other than replacing all steering stations with newer models

: I have seen them for sale on the internet, can I not just purchase that one?
Answer: We advise against this. The main reason is that you do not know what you are getting (is it working, is it rusty on the inside, is it truly the right valve...etc...)

I hope that this helps out.. and as always, if you have any questions please feel free to ask
