Default Will Bottom Paint Just Wear Off?

I'm looking at a boat with bottom paint which I will use exclusively in freshwater. I did a search on bottom paint and found one post that stated it would eventually wear off.

Does everyone share that opinion?;?

Ablative paint will wear down but I doubt it will ever wear completely off. Epoxy based paint will not come off unless it taken off by chemical, sandblasting or soda blasting.

There was arecent thread you can search for that described the process of removing bottom paint. You can also refurbish the bottom paint and finish it with something like Pettit Vivid and it will last for a very long time.

It will not wear off. The active ingredients will stop working but the pigment will stay. Iv'e got six year old bottom paint on mine (keep her on a trailer). Just looks like crap.
