Default Big blue marlin stuck in offshore oil loading hose.

These are pictures of the floating load hose on the FPSO Girassol in Angola , Africa that was pierced by a blue marlin. Load operations were shut down for a few days while they replaced the hose. For reference, this terminal produces about 250k barrels of oil a day.

What amount of force would it take to puncture something like that?

WOW! If he could do that to that, just imagine what he could do to you.

Note to self: Never take the boat out of gear while fighting any billfish.

Good eyes. How big yall think that fish in the pic is? By my very crude calculations its no bigger then 60 inches. Thats if each stripe is 7inches wide, which they are not?

I think Shields Hose can cash in on this, the all new "Low Billfish Permeation" hose.

That was the first thing I noticed I was just waiting to see who else noticed. I did fish out of a charter from Hatteras that had a bill still sticking through the bottom of the boat. They just made the repair without removing the bill.

When I first saw that first picture, it reminded me of that beer commercial where the astonomers saw a meteor that was going to hit the earth, so they decided to party! Turns out the "Meteor" was about the size of a small pea!

Just to continue the photo shop theory. The stripe on the hose isn't faded at all and there is no marine growth on it in the second picture. That piece of hose looks brand new.

Also if you take some measurments. comparing the guys wrist to the width of the stripe and the length of the piece of hose and compare it to the first picture that ceratainly is't the same hose the proprtions are all wrong.

I love a good conpiracy theory!

This is located right next to our rig over here in Angola. What you are seeing in the first pic is not the hose, but bouyancy on the outside of the actual hose. Look closely and you can see the flanged connection, which is 24". I'll ask and get more info regarding size, etc.

I'm suprised to see it in THT

I dont buy it. At that angle the bill would have glanced right off the hose. The bill just isnt sharp enough to penetrate at an angle like that.

Question

The broken bill looks like a swordfish bill, not a marlin's, which is much rounder. ;?

Looks like there is a floatation "bag" around the smaller hose inside and the bill pierced both.
