Default So I ran 25 miles at WOT yesterday...

I've never gone WOT for more that a mile or so with my Yamaha F225. The main reason is normally choppy waters of the South Shore of MA and the fuel consumption. But I was heading back from Race Point to Scituate yesterday after an awesome day of fishing. And the bay was the calmest I have ever see it. Just flat and gorgeous. So I opened it up to 42mph at 5700rpm and made it back in a flash. Motor purred the whole way. Seemed very happy.

So how about you? What's the farthest you've ever gone at WOT?

Less than 10 minutes a few times. First when I was having her surveyed, then a couple of times soon after I had a repower.

Just don't feel comfortable running big block inboards at WOT. Not necessarily the engine itself I am worrying about but everything that hangs off it!!

Ran w/o from Grand Haven to South Haven. On the pin from inlet to inlet. Last trip of the year and needed to burn off some fuel. Engine was a 454ci V8.

You should run WOT at least every now & again. It won't hurt anything. Actually, it will help blow some carbon out & burn off some condensation from inside the crankcase. If your worried about the "stuff that hangs off it" perhaps you should go over that "stuff" & make sure it's up to speed Not saying ya have to blast WOT for long periods of time, but maybe 10 minutes every few trips. It would be good to know everything is functioning as it should at WOT.

BTW, bucko...are you still interested in those Crusader manuals??

But we aren't suppose to have any carbon 'cause we are using ring-free.
