Default well i bought a 40 ft cigarette rehaber!!

well im selling my blackfin and moving on to bigger and maybe not better. The blackfin is an awesome boat for 2-3 people to fish but it gets tight with more so i decided to go bigger.I brought home boat 2 weeks ago and so far ive installed new transom, stringers and new flooring in parts.I chopped the roof off up to the last 10 ft.
This boat has massive potential and im converting it to a center console.I had plans to install triple motors on a bracket, but the more im learning on surface drives and diesels this might be the way to go.My thought was one 440 hp yanmar and a simplicity surface drive.prop would be 26"x22" the boat is around 10000 pounds and 24 degree deadrise.what do you guys think of the power option i describe???hey ringleader thanks for all the pics and posts i learned some stuff from you and for that i say thanks!!

I would not recommend a surface drive if the boat will be left in the water or if you troll alot. Surface drives through out a lot of white water and create a lot of turbulence leaving a very distrubed wake. Therefore, your baits will often be lost in the wash requiring you to drop them way back for efectiveness. Also, bottom painting a surface drive does not work that well as the paint does not adhere well with all the turbulence (we have experienced this with Fountain's 48 express cruiser, the paint just will not adhere well). I would think that a single would be underpowered as well, twins would be the way to go. If you really want a bad ass offshore boat with a good ride, then put straight inboards in that beast and she'd eat up anything. A set of 500 hp Yanmar's with that setup would really provide an efficient package with a low center of gravity giving a very soft ride. Triple outboards would be a very easy and cost effective way to go that would not require a lot of tooling. Plus, that would more than likely yield the best perforance. Do you have any pics yet?

Look at the Jim Smith 42-45' This boat could give you good ideas for the surface drives. I said it before I think 40', twin surface drives, small cuddy, open boat cruise 50mph would be I deal. One thing to think about is that hull will be great in a head sea but strap your self in on the drift. Sounds like a fun project. Rob

Good Luck. I'm in the middle of a restoration. Jim Smith Tournament 40. Just to give you a feel for a possible engine combo. I've got twin Mercruiser 8.1HO 420HP. Top speed of 45MPH 60GPH. Cruise at 30MPH 22GPH.

Is that the new stealth model to sneak up on fish, and is it like Wonder Woman, you see her but not the plane?

WaveGuide -

I think you meant Don Smith 42-45 footers (not Jim Smith). The Smith 42 and 45 have those cool power vent surface drives (www.smithboats.com). I have heard nothing but good things about these boats..
