Default What do you think about having the boat name or logo on the side of the hull?

Thinking about getting something for my CC boat. Either the name or name with a small logo. Probably more towards the stern of the boat. I have not seen too many boats in the Northeast like this. Down South you see alot. What are you guys opinions? How large of a name and logo would you go? Anyone have any pictures?

I have seen quite a bit of smaller boats with the name on the stern of the boat... I did it myself with a smaller boat... Personally, I feel this is the best place to put a name when you have an outboard... Go for it!

I have a Cobia 234 CC with the name (no logo) on the side near the stern. I fish Lake Erie with it. Where else, but the side, can you put the name when you have an outboard and a euro transom? Go for it.

This is how I did mine.

Boat is unpainted alloy so I needed something to smarten it up.

Make sure you check your state's regs about this - I remembering reading somewhere that in NY you cannot put identifying numbers on the side of the front-half (closest to the bow) of the boat other than the registration information. A quick check of the NYS DMV site just confirmed that. It's possible other states may have more stringent requirements (e.g., no letters or logos).

Wording, logo, etc anywhere on the side of the boat does nothing but junk up the boat. Besides, try to sell that boat after taking it off and the hull is two colors.

One of the all time great arguements for having an inboard or stern drive engine is the ability to put the name of the boat in the only location that it belongs: on the transom.

The name belongs in the back. Put it there if you have the room.

consider docking arrangements also. i don't have a name on the side, but the manufacturer logo is. my starboard logo is pretty well smudged up since that is the side of my floating finger dock and it lines up with the dock guards pretty well when someone is handling lines in or out of the slip. however, i'm sure an excellent captain could keep it off the dock edge; not me.

i also agree with the comment about implications for a later sale.

I have mine on the side of my 265 Express - I love the name location - with twin motors one is a bit limited for room on the stern.

Nothing wrong with putting a name on the side, especially on OBs

Be careful of placement. Too far aft right below the sern cleat where you are going to hang a fender & it will quickly get damaged especially it is a vynl stick on type.

Exactly. My old SeaPro had a notched transom and ladder on one side left very little room for a name. The sides were the only place to put it.

Good point on the bow cleat/name location -
I have mine right below the cleat - but the fender rides below the name.

When I removed the logo name, the paint underneath was a different shade. With a little oxidation remover and a polisher, I polished the hull back to one color, no problem. It took a little effort but the whole boat looked a lot better anyway. Don't listen to the "name belongs on the transom" crowd. I see many boats with the name on the side. Keeping it toward the stern so as not to interfere with the registration numbers sounds like a good idea though.

Well - right now there are two shark heads out on my back deck (preparing the jaws)
I have had thresher tails nailed to deck -

My wife has joked that I have shark fins in the attic -

I guess a play on words -
