Default What Would Happen If I Did This?

I'm thinking of mounting twin 235 Johnsons on my Hewes 21 footer. What would happen if I mounted them? How fast would the boat go?

Any advice would help

Now that, and this, should be fun! 235 Evinrudes I take it. On a 21' Hewes, which I assume is a flats boat. Issues? Stern weight and room to actually mount them. Steering? Seastar with a tiebar. Tabs? You'll need them. Shaft lengths? 20" would be the ticket. Transom integrity? Don't want a couple of expensive anchors back there.

I'm sure more will chime in, but I say have at it!

I doubt if the transom is rated for that HP or weight. You run a chance of having a boat which is not controlable and risking injury to you or others, even death, plus damage to the boat, other boats or structure. Your boat is a 1973 and I suspect only rated for 150 to 200 hp max when new. At this time, the photos of the boat look like it might not be structurally sound even for a single motor.

Frankly I hope that you are a troll, and not seriously considering doing this.

If you're seriously contemplating doing this......then somebody has to say it: You're an idiot. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but please do it on a deserted body of water and please don't take anyone with you.

A guy who did something simalar to what you are talking about here in the northwest came down to the dock one morning after a tournament to find his boat sitting on the bottom of the bay. Transom disagreed with his choice of power and with the way he used it and cracked and thus sunk the boat. Luckily no one was on it when it sunk. Will you be as lucky? Time will tell! ;?

No problem at all. 90mph easy, maybe even a hundred!

if it is 235's I assume old Evinrude 2-smokers. 1. alot of weight on the transom- not safe. 2. to get both of those motors to run at the same time might be a workout- what condition are they? 3. you have exceeded the max hp for the boat- bye bye insurance coverage. You'll have to trim the boat (trim tabs) if they are both rotating the same direction, and get props to work for the setup. Trying to win the darwin awards can be an involved venture, is it worth it? Propped correctly, you should see 60-70, 50 before it starts to porpose and become a bucking bronco. Take videos!

I would want to look at the bottom and see what she looks like, I can pretty much tell you, without a pad you can strap all the hp on her you want and she'll only run max hull speed. Less drag equals speed.

And the motors are in like-new condition and running perfectly.
Make sure you tie those motors down to the front of the hull, so if the transom breaks, you might be able to salvage those motors instead of making an reef out of them!

Like I said, that, and this would be fun! Nutball? Yes. Wants to do it? Yes. Listen to anyone here as to NOT do it? NO! So, I say, have at it! And has been noted here, don't hurt anyone in the process.

i think your tabs will have to be so far down, creating so much drag you wont get over 50.

some of you guys are too closed minded. is this out right dangerous. absoutely. it is doable. absoutely.

to answer the original question. "What Would Happen If U Did This?"
who knows. you got the boat. you got the motors. you show us what would happen.

don't forget to take a lot of pixs and videos.

uavaj, i don't hear you attempting it,that boat would have to be radically beefed up to handle that kind of strain.big metal angles, braces, etc.

May I quote my previous post...
