Default Triton 220 LTS w/ F200 - Underpowered?

Hi everyone. I am interested in a used Triton 220 LTS, no T-Top, that is powered by a Yamaha F200. It is a good ways away from me and I would hate to drive a few hundred miles to find out that it probably needs a few more ponys. I can't seem to find any performance bulletins for the Yamaha since Triton was purchased by Brunswick. I would mostly be using it for inshore and nearshore fishing off the GA?SC coast and also cruising the family around. It does have trim tabs if that makes a difference with hole shot.

Also if anyone has an overall opinion on the Triton saltwater line please feel free to share it. Thanks.

GREAT boat! Not underpowered, not over powered. With the T-top mine did mid 40's to 50 top end with the Yam. 200 HDPI. But a lot depends on load, water/wind and prop. Not sure about the fuel consumption, never really paid that much attention.

I have a 220 LTS with a 225 Opti. I would not think the loss of 25 hp would be put you in the category of being underpowered. I generally run with 2 (and at times up to 4) people, with inshore tackle, average fuel load of 40 gallons, and sometimes have both biatwells full witout any issues.

Triton's website, at the attached link, list the recommended hp at 175-250.

Good luck on your decision.

I'd say that unless you're a speed freak or a tournament fisherman an F200 should be fine. Just like RichardB, I top out at 50+ in mine with a 200HPDI (no T-top). My guess is the top end with the F200 would be 2-3 MPH less. I'm a fisherman and really don't care about hole shot, except I don't want plow along too long chewing up oysters trying to get on plane. My boat jumps on plane extemely well without trim tabs. The F200 would likely take a bit longer, but with the right prop and maybe some prop porting, the F200 should be fine for fishing and cruising.
