Default Crusader FWC Exhaust Manifold And Elbow?

This topic came up on the Hatteras 34 repower thread and I was wondering if anybody knows how this works.

The only thing I can think of is a dry exhaust with some bodacious mufflers and heat exchangers on the manifolds and elbows.

Anybody know the answer to this one?

This is what I have. FWC thru a heat exchangers with wet exhaust and composite mufflers.

Double post. What's with the "Enabled Flood control wait one minute" thing? To many people on at once? ;?

nOt sure what the question is? Crusader FWC system uses closed cooling on the engine and manifolds. The riser and elbow are raw water.

I don't know Dave, they're claiming the exhaust manifolds and elbows are FWC.

I looked at that info in the link already but how does this work?

It can't be exhausting freshwater through the exhaust.

They 're fresh water cooled. Chk the specs on the site I posted above. Those lines going into the riser and manifold are from the heat exchanger.

your right it's the raw water going out of the heat exchanger out the exhaust.

Sorry if I'm just dense, but are they just cooling the manifold and elbow with a heat exchanger?

What's coming through the wet exhaust?

Okay, we were typing at the same time. Let me see if I understand this.

The engine pulls raw water through a heat exchanger that jackets the exhaust manifolds and risers. This raw water then goes out the exhaust?

I have to be missing something here.

That I'd have to look up in my manuals which I cain't do at this time due to the mauals are on my boat and i'm at work. If I remember right the output from the heat exchanger ties into the wet muffler.

Dang Keith, you sure work some strange hours!

Seems to me that this is not going to accomplish much if anything in terms of maintenance costs. Looks like you'll be replacing those heat exchangers at least as often as you would manifolds and elbows, and it's bound to be more labor intensive to boot.

Here goes. The raw water pump picks up raw water and sends it thriugh the trans/ oil cooler then to the heat exchanger then through the risers/ elbows then out the exhaust. The jacket coolant cools the block and manifolds. The risers/ elbows are raw water weather closed cooling or raw. Trust me. I have worked on scores of these.
This is the same as the 12v71s in the Hatt.

The heat exchangers are actualy fairly easy to change. They're mounted right on the back of the motor above the tranny in plain site. Just make sure to change the anodes every season and they should double the life span of the risers, which I think are recommended to be changed every 6 or 7 yrs.

Working nights ain't so bad. More money and no bosses.

Wow! That's not at all what I had envisioned, but now I see what they are doing.

Seems to me there have to be some drawbacks or everybody would do that. Anyway, thanks for the education.

I never knew my 12V71's were set up like that and just assumed the manifolds and elbows had raw water running through them.

Somebody will probably answer the question I posed earlier while I'm typing this, but why doesn't everybody do this?
