Default G P S Question

With so many different types and styles of units out there it is confusing which one to buy.
I am looking for something hand held that would be good on water as well as land.
best bang for the buck.
thanks all

1. Learn to to use the "Search" function on the blue bar, near the top of every page

2. Post electronics questions in the Marine Electronics Forum

3. Look for product advice & great pricing in the Vendor Forum

4. Put your location in your profile. Questions are often location specific (i.e. do you use your boat in freshwater or saltwater ?)

5. Check out Garmin. They make a great line of portables. Specifically look at the 378 (lakes) & 478 (coastal)

You really need to do a bit of research, and figure out what bells and whistles you want, which you can do without, and then choose a unit based on that.

Several companies make good handhelds, they all perform well, but they all do things a bit differently from one another.

Garmin is the leader...the one that sells for right at $200 is a very good unit, decent size screen and features...waterproof and it floats....Mick
