Default buying spare Yamaha keys?

I seem to have misplaced my ignition key. I know it will turn up someplace in the house, and meanwhile I have a spare. But I would like to buy a couple more spare keys for it.

I stopped by local key-making hardware store, and they dont stock blanks for Yamaha keys. Does anyone know what I need to do to buy a couple extras? I have the number from it.

No Yamaha dealer here, but I will be in the US later this week. Do dealers stock these keys?

You might try an actual locksmith shop; they should be able to copy the key (including making a blank) without too much trouble.

You can get them from any Yamaha dealer; SIM would be my first choice if you didn't have one local. All you need is the 3 digit number stamped on your key.

I have been told Yamaha only has like 3 different keys, so getting the one you need shouldn't be difficult.

Joe is right. You just need the code from your key and you can get it from any Yamaha dealer. My guess (and hope) is that they will want your name, engine serial number, etc. to verify ownership. I second the recommendation for Andy (SIM). Give him a call.........

Well, I am not in the US. No Yamaha dealer here. No locksmith shop. Will be on Martha's Vineyard tomorrow for the week, so I will try up there. I know there's a decent locksmith shop over in Falmouth. I guess I better take the model and serial number with me, but really, there's no proof of ownership to that specific motor.

I don't think you'll need it; just the 3 digit key number. You can even buy the rubber thing that goes on the key if you want another.

I just picked up two spare keys from a local Yamaha dealer, just as said above, they already have the keys as spares, just need the three numbers and they pull them from a box...

Gringo........email your key number and I will ship to any US address by postal. $6.00 a pop plus $4 for the rubber cap if you want them.

No bigge on ownership proof..........if someone wants to steal a boat, that key panel certainly will not stop em.

I found out that not all keys have the number on them. I wanted to get a couple of spare keys and everyone said the same thing, "Give me the number on the key". All my key said was YAMAHA. I ended up getting the numbers off the key cylinder in the panel.
