Default West Marine heads up

I typically buy little stuff from the local WM here in Stuart. However I had been shopping for a 170 qt Moeller ice station zero cooler on the net. By far the best prices was 290.00 from River marine in Miami. However I did not want to go down to Miami and waste a day getting it.
WM price was the typical 390.00 bucks way too much. So I asked the manager if she would meet comp. She pulled up the pricing on the net and she met the 290.00 price. I must say i was pleasently suprised and a little lighter in the wallet.

First I ever heard of a brick and mortar store matching an internet price. From RMS no less

Will wonders never cease.
Can't say that it makes much sense to me for any WM to do that, but good luck with your new cooler.

In the past I had brought Internet prices to my local WM and they matched those prices. About 6 - 8 months ago (or maybe longer), I was told that they would no longer match Internet prices. One manager told me that there had been a large number of fraudulent prices that some WM stores matched, and they were stopping the matching.

If this is the case, that they will now resume matching Internet prices, that is good news for me. I have MANY of those $10 certificates (used to be $15) that I can use to get more for my money.

I have heard that WM will do that. When i was shopping for a handheld radio, they were willing to price match an internet price as well. I dont know if they normaly do that for electronics though, but was a nice surprise. also, amex usually has a 10% purchase coupon somewhere on their ste to printout if using amex at wm.

I refuse to play the price matching game.

If a store or vendor will price match, then they should be competitively priced to begin with.

I used to work at West Marine. 3 years actually. They're prices are inflated but they'll bgenerally price match anyone except Defender. They used to price match Defender but stopped because they would lose money on it. So the managers would start price matching defender only after shipping was added on.

After that noone wanted to price match defender anymore.

Well WM told me they would not honor a "net" price but RMS is an actual storefront with brick and mortar which is why I believe they matched the price.. I am not usually a WM fan by any means but in this case it sounds like I got lucky

When I worked there net purchasing wasn't big yet. It was just starting. Not sure how things have changed. I worked there from '98 through '00. So more like 2 1/2 years. Great college job. It wasn't exactly work.

Too bad they just don't price things right in the first place (gee...like they USED to).

But that is their game. They'll screw you unless you catch them in the act.

Then they put up the white flag and "price-match" the other guy.

Kind of like the tail wagging the dog.

Where do you find the coupons on the amex site?

If WM or BUS has an item I want I always bring in the on-line quote.
They may not match it but they will come close and I drive away with
it that day...........

Here in Old Saybrook CT there is a WM with a BW right across the street from one another BW beats WM
90% of the time. A few bucks here and there don't bother me but whens it half the price in the same box it
makes you wonder. the west marines here in CT have a very high rate of turnover and there hours suck.
boaters world have some knowledgeable help and much better hours and better prices BW hands down

I cannot speak to whether or not they are theives. I do know that River Marine has been in business long before internet sales were invented. They have a substantial shop in down town Miami and typically they have the best prices here in sofla. If they are involved in illegal activity I would have thought they would have been closed down by now. If they are involved in theft I certainly would not buy anything from them. I know what its like have $$$$ worth of tackle stolen off the my boat.

I'm proud of ya, 'Boater. For once you didn't whine about your garboard plug or 5200 while bashing WM. Maybe you're finally moving on ... or not!

^^^^^^^

Nah, I just figure why limit their "screwing" to just two items.

Pretty much their whole inventory, if you ask me...

LOL
