It's really sad when his life possibly could have been saved by wearing a PFD (the law, btw)! How does a father sleep at night with this on his conscience??? The father doesn't need condolences, he needs someone to knock some sense into him!

Don't want to be the a$$hole here, but the story says he HAD ON a pfd. the child pulled clear. I think the weight of this event is enough for the family. Let's don't resort to throwing accusations in a public forum that they/friends might read. My heart goes out to them regardless of blame. I think I'll hug my child a little tighter tonight. He is only 21

Pirate, read the whole article, the kid was wearing the PFD and it was pulled off of him by the dad trying to pull him back in after the boat capsized...I guess you could argue about the crotch retention strap (Lil-Mustang) but he was wearing the PFD.

I couldn't have said this better myself. My heart goes out to the entire family and friends.

I'm sure he doesn't sleep at night.
His child slipped right out of his hands.
Crushing.

As posted above, he apparently was wearing it and it pulled off. My condolences to the family....

Alright, I'll admit that I missed the part about the PFD. Thanks for pointing this out, my outrage has simmered a bit. Perhaps we need all child PFD's to adhere to a higher standard so this can't happen. I know that I have complete confidence in the Lil Mustang that my 1 and 3 year old wear.

A real shame. Cannot imagine what the father is going through.
Thoughts and prayers.
I second the comment on the lil mustang. My 5 yo has one and is is an excellent design for those of you wondering.
