Default Contender Bay 25 Vs. Blackjack 256 (Ride Quality)

I was wondering if any has spent a lot of time on both of these hulls. Looking for ride quality in the nasty stuff. I have spent countless hours on the Contender Bay so I know how that performs but zero hours on the Blackjack. Seems like the contender would be a little faster and skips through everything, while the blackjack has a deeper deadrise to help cut through the wave vs skipping over it. I have ridden on their BJ 224 and was very impressed.

Not looking to start a pissing fight because they are both good boats and for the love of God, do NOT throw in other boat brands... Not interested in them

I can not comment on the contender. The 256 is a GREAT ridding boat. It will skip over and cut through chop. One thing i have learned with the boat is that with boat wakes ( lots of them is SWFL) you do not have to cut into them, in stead the boat handles them at high speeds very well at a more than quartering angle.

Contender Bay has been my dream since they came out in 2013 but the deck layout kills me. I love the 256 Coastal layout and the Blackjack lines are just gorgeous

If Contender made their bay hull in an open model, I’d have one. The deck layout kills it for me as well. Instead, I have a BJ Coastal being delivered in about a month. The layout and ride are fantastic.

Agreed with the deck layout on the Contender Bay. An open with a closed transom would be sick.

I really wanted to like the contender. The amount of room between the rounded frigid rigid cooler they use and the side compartment is laughable. Yeah you can put a smaller cooler but for there to be walking room it’s going to be tiny. No help with your question OP but they really strayed from their roots with the 25 bay.

Funny you mention that area. We felt the same way.

I’ve been saying that for years. You get rid of the stern casting deck and open it up, I think they will sell a ton of them. Barkers have a good layout too

Agree with the above points on the Contender. It's a boat I wish I could love, but the back deck kills it for me.

Rumor has it that they were working on an open layout plan before covid. Not sure if that’s still happening considering boats can’t even get materials and the wait is so long. I sure hope so though

Have you ridden in both? Im only interested in comparing the ride between the two. I have walked all over both but only ridden on the contender

I have not been on a 25 bay personally, not bashing it at all. I have been on the 256 and for what it is it's hard to beat in my opinion. I think you will find both boats ride very well. It's a layout preference for me.

The forward layout of the contender bay is perfect for what I'm looking for. The lady likes to lay out while I'm fishing so it gives her forward seating and me a big casting platform. Its just the stern deck... Wish it was open like the 256 coastal. Thanks for your input though. I did not intend to sound aggressive on my response
