Default Finally did it... bought my first boat!

I started fishing at age 5 or 6 out of south Jersey with my dad and grandfather. For ~20 years, my dad had boats ranging from 22’-29’ that we primarily fished up to 25 miles out. Meanwhile, I would get offshore 2-4 times a year on friends’ boats. Not having a boat at my disposal for the last 4-5 years was frustrating at times but manageable. Then Covid hit, and that pushed me over the edge.

I decided now, during this crazy boat market and with a newborn at home, was the time to buy. I started looking and had a very unique criteria... trailerable, reliable O/B power, offshore capable (on the right days), plenty of shade for my wife (stage 3 melanoma survivor), ohhh and budget...<$30k

There are numerous reason why it doesn’t make any sense to buy a boat now but the pros outweighed the cons and I pulled the trigger. After one misfire (traveled a few hours to see a boat that was more of a project than I wanted right now), I landed on a the perfect boat (given my wishlist).

As of yesterday, I’m the proud owner of a 1993 26’ SkipJack Flybridge with twin 200hp Etecs. The survey came back clean as a whistle, no rot, delamination, blisters, etc. She’s been well kept and cared for. I’ll have her in NJ by Saturday and in the water by Easter.

That is a great setup. Is that an outboard conversion?

thanks, I agree. I think this one flew under the radar because it’s a west coast made boat located on the east coast and its a less popular style (ie not a center console).

99% of these are I/Os. This is a rare factory made outboard boat.

I saw the first pic before I read it's a 26. Thought it was much bigger and don't recall seeing a 26 flybridge boat. Very nice.

That's grown man bow rail too.

Just 26’ but a big 26’ (loa is just over 29’).

Funny you mention the bow rail. From what I understand, it’s a west coast style rail, meant to be tall enough to lean against when fighting a fish from the bow.

Especially in this market, but even pre-covid, that is a lot of boat for the money!

Looks to me you really scored a nice boat for the buck. Looks way bigger than a 26'. Congratulations!

Looks like a steal. Congrats, but watch out for low bridges over the road.

The only thing that boat needs is 4 cases of Miller Lite in a tub of ice. Congrats and enjoy it!
