Default Good source of info for older OMC engines

Just thought I'd share this site I discovered yesterday for those of you that still own, and do your own work on older OMC outboards. This came in handy for me yesterday as I was installing a new impeller / impeller housing kit on my 1999 9.9 Johnson kicker. The Clymer manual I was using stated to put both the shift controls and shift rod on the lower unit in reverse prior to reassembly. There was no way in hell you could connect the two halves of the shift rod with them both in reverse. After some cussing, I did a little online research and found this website which had the CORRECT way to do it. Turns out the Clymer manual was wrong and you have to put the shift controls in forward, and shift rod on the lower unit in reverse in order to connect the two. I know that doesn't sound like it makes any sense, but there is no way you can physically connect the two without doing it that way. And I did confirm post re-assembly that the shifting is in sync.

Here's the site: OMC outboard related articles (leeroysramblings.com)

BTW, just to show my gratitude to Leeroy for posting his knowledge, I did make a donation.
