Default Make the Pro XS V8 as quiet as the regular 4S model?

As far as I can tell from Youtube videos, the regular Merc V8 4Stroke is quite a bit quieter than the loud Pro XS V8 model and the Verado is quieter than both. Is there any way to make the Pro XS permanently as quiet as the regular model? I would just buy the regular model but I need a torquemaster lower and don't want the weight of the Verado model (weight sensitive application). Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Have you been on boats powered by all 3? The ProXS models are only ‘louder’ than the FourStroke and Verado (with Sport Exhaust off) models at idle. No different than the 250R or 300R. They are operating permanently at idle with Sport Exhaust mode on. It’s has a very subtle rumble. After idle, they all sound the same. If that’s too loud for you at idle, then you better get some ear plugs and earmuffs because wind noise over 10mph will be absolutely deafening.

Thanks for the info. Although I have experience with the 2-stroke Mercs (loud) and the V6 Verados (very quiet), I have yet to see one of the new Merc V8's running or even see one on the water for that matter. I sea-trialed the same model boat I am planning on ordering, but it had a SHO so I really don't have any way of comparison other than Youtube. If I go through with ordering the boat, I will probably get with you for the electronics since I would be coming to Baton Rouge to order the boat anyway.

I was about to post the same question-

I have V8 250 ProXs and they are great motors. Light fast and efficient

However if you do a lot of low speed trolling or cruising (around 700-1500 rpm) or fishing at idle and you spend hours like that, the rumble will bother you and not pleasant in the long term. I have been in the V8 Verado and its low noise at idle make a big difference. High speed cruising it's the same.

I studied the parts diagrams and looks like the XS has only few different parts in the exhaust system vs. the 4S.

I need a expert opinion if I can switch these few parts to achieve the same silenced tone and idle and I would definitely do it.

I agree. The racing model would be fine to leave loud, but alot of us want to fish with the Pro XS. I would modify the Pro XS to make it as quiet as the regular model if possible or buy the regular model with a torquemaster if that was an option.

Too bad you can't make them sound like an Optimax.

Mine (300Rs) have an option on the display where you can toggle between sport exhaust and regular. In normal mode they’re silent.
