Default Seatow or Boatus

Just got a boat after several years since my last one.
So what's the better tow service? Cost? Palm Beach 195 if that matters.
I launch out of the Jacksonville and St Augustine area. So it looks like boat USA is probably the most popular.
the boat is a Palm Beach 195.

I like Boat US because it comes with dock and fuel discounts but it will really come down to what is more prevalent in your area.

A lot depends on where you live.

Either is a good choice. I use Boat US, and enjoy a couple of the minor perks that come with it: Decent magazine and West Marine points.

Ask around. Usually one is better than the other in a given area.

Agree with the comments about looking into your specific area. I use Boat US because of the services in the areas we boat, also enjoy the perks. The area and the services in that area is what is the most important to me.

I had both at one point. Lucky I did because one said it would be 4-6 hours and the other said they would be there within an hour WITH a diver (free for an hour). Was on the ICW in FL.

All about who is better locally, what areas they cover, how far out they will go, etc.

There is a FL sub-forum on THT

See who is most active out of your port. BoatUS has a hard 50 mile offshore limit, but in my area SeaTow will come out to around 80 miles so I went with them. Best option in my opinion is to get insurance with unlimited towing, then just use whoever is around.

You may be able to add a Towing Rider to your insurance that will cover you no matter which company shows up, even if it is not BoatUS or Sea Tow, as there may be some smaller outfits around your location. Look to see who is covering your likely boating area and if you want any of the discounts that come with BoatUS (Sea Tow has some, just not as much) to help decide if one is better than the other for your situation.

I use Tow Boats, but only because I know the local owner, and their presence is heavier where I boat.

South Louisiana inshore and a few miles offshore. I use Seatow and I've never seen BoatUS around here.

I have both. Small price to pay for who might be around or busy or not when you need them. If they were $500 a piece that would be different but at under $200 each in the grand scheme of the costs of boating its not that much $ for service and/or convenience.

What are the pros/cons of up having slide & glide coverage through your insurance vs. a straight up contract directly with SeaTow/TowBoatUS? I’ve got a new boat coming in April so this topic is timely.

i don't have much knowledge on this subject, but I do know that BoatUS and Gieco are in some sort of a partnership. when I get my boatus insurance policy, it ends up being a gieco policy

all in the details

is insurance just reimbursing?

you may be low on a priority list if not a member and a big name has to come do the actual tow

Are you sure about that? I think you are also out of the Tampa Bay Area and I've definitely been told by both that 50 miles is their limit.
I've asked each more than once.

Range seems to vary considerably by location.
