Being an inland boater, I’ve always been intrigued by you guys and your offshore adventures.
So what’s the furthest you’ve traveled offshore? What kind of boat were you in?
I went probably 10 or 20 miles off the coast of Wildwood NJ in the summer of 2007. I was on a private fishing charter.

25’ Ranger we went 129 miles out this summer to catch tuna on an overnighter. Burnt 190 gallons of fuel. Would do it again in a heartbeat if the weather is right. This is a pic in the morning while we were picking up to head in.

~110miles Gulf of Mexico. 26ft Calcutta. Fishing middle grounds. Did the same trip in a 33 hydra sports, 3- fountain and 35 Cabo.
Looking at the stars alone is worth the trip. But fishing is amazing also!

I have been 110 miles offshore a few times in the past year solo on my 28’ Bluewave hybrid. I was limited by fuel. Sold the Bluewave and new boat has 400 miles of range so I expect to push further offshore with good windows.

17’ Boston Whaler 35 miles offshore.
My bro would take a 15’ Zodiac 60 miles offshore.
44’ SF 95 miles offshore, out West, no oil rig or mariner population out there, you are in no man’s land.

How do you know that conditions won’t deteriorate on the way back? Just have to trust the forecasts?

140+ mile one-way runs in the Bahamas, but not necessarily straight in to open ocean.
Most remote would be cay sal bank. 125 mile run from bimini. Could either jog west to Keys or south to Cuba if SHTF.

From Upper Key Largo area...
- Went to Bimini several times as a kid. 1984 27 Phoenix Weekender, twin outboards. Same boat fished anywhere from 10-40ish miles offshore growing up.
- Again 30 or 40ish miles offshore in a 2000 27 Pro Line 27 Sport.
- Around 50 miles on a neighbor's 31 Open Contender.
- Routinely fish in the 10-20ish miles range.
Luckily, we don't have to go far to be offshore down here.

I can make it about 135 miles on a half a tank of gas. I useually go that far every time just to push the limits. I been farther than most people but the good fish are useually only 80 miles out.
