Default 4.2l Yamaha f300 lowers interchangeable in length

Found a set of 30” f300s locally. Trying to find out if I could just straight swap the lowers with 25s or would I have to change the shift shaft etc.

currently have 25” 3.3l f250s. These are the 4.2 300s. Seeing if it’s worth while in selling the 30” lowers and finding the correct 25” I would need. If it’s just a straight swap I’d for sure consider purchasing.

Yes you can, need to remove the 5” spacer between lower and midsection then just plug in the 25” lower. There is a very similar thread just today.

300 Yamaha 30 INCH. Whats the difference?

So Yamaha confirmed yes it’s a spacer and would have to change shaft/water pickup tube, Or just swap lower. Had a friend with verados that had a bit more work to make it work. Thanks guys
