Default Charging More for White Verados Over Black

Auto manufacturers would never get away with this. Nobody would pay $4,000 more for a white car over a black one.

Do dealers pay more for white Verados or is the cost the same to them with ability to offer a deeper discount?

Mercury's cost for painting an outboard white must be the same for painting it back right?

Systemic Racism is to blame

Is all about White Supremacy.

They charge more to create the idea that the white motor is superior. People paying for it keeps the myth alive, fight the power, resist.

Car dealers get a premium for premium colors.

If itís a $4,000 option, itís likely the dealer repainting them to match the boatís white. They charge insane $$ for that.

Not sure why they charge $1500 for a hull color and $4000 to paint the engines. Other than the fact that people keep being willing to pay that much for that option.

If itís just the factory Mercury white, itís not that expensive. I think closer to $1200

If itís that much itís a repaint. Pathfinder uses a company that paints planes. Factory white is less than that because I bought a factory white Verado. What I donít understand a two tone gel coat requires more work taping off and such but is much cheaper than the full color hull I got that requires less work.

Whaler is charging $4,179 (MSRP) for white for twin 300 V8's.

I got a local quote for white 300 v8 verados. 24k each less installation and rigging. That price seemed about average to me and he said the up charge for white as only ďa littleĒ. I didnít dive into it with him as it was 3pm on Christmas Eve. Iím still shopping it around. No way Iíd ever pay 4K for white. If thatís really the up charge Iíd buy black and have them done locally. If Iím taking it in the ass Iíd rather it went into a local guys pocket.

Economy of scale.
when 90% of what you paint is one color, it is expensive to change a production paint system to a different color.

Both Scout and Edgewater show a single white outboard as a $4,000 option (per motor).

It is a full repaint though, not the factory white.

The factory white is about $2k as an option. Prices listed are MSRP though so itís really about 15% less when you price it out.

This exactly, ask your dealer if it's the engine manufacturer's standard white or a custom white. Should be a custom white at that price. Usually a white to match a hull or deck color, I think BW and GW both have like an off white color that many match their engines too. As to why it's $1500 to paint a hull vs $4000 for engines is because it's $1500 on top of the the amount they have baked into the base price for painting the hull white originally. But I still don't get how they come up with $4000 to paint an engine though, I guess like others have stated if people are willing to pay it...

It is expensive to be exclusive and standout from all others. Learn to love standard factory colors on a depreciating asset or be special and pay a premium, pretty easy decision to be made with each persons individual checkbook.

They charge it because people will pay it - same as Ferrari charges thousands for painting a couple of stripes down the car, same as fashion houses charge thousands more for adding a name to a pair of shoes or a handbag.

Personally, Iím glad black is the Ďcheapí option for a Mercury - looks much better than white IMHO.
