Hey guys, a buddy of mine has a 06 Boston whaler 270 outrage. It has 2 225 outboard engines. A code popped up that says can 1 fault 17. Engines sound fine and everything works without a problem. I’ve been trying to search online for the code but can’t get a definitive answer as to the meaning. I’m pretty mechanically inclined but not very familiar with boats. If anyone can help me out what this code can be I’d appreciate it! Thank you...

Oh thank you! So a possible manifold leak. Can you explain to me what it means by “can 1“ fault 17. In the boat world could it mean can 1 is for one engine and can 2 is for the other? Then the actual code is the fault 17? Sorry if I’m not making much sense but would like to learn. He called a mechanic and he told him to check his batteries or connection from throttle to engines? No idea how they can be related unless batteries are low causing weird issues.

Yeesh, this is worse than car forums. I see it’s the same everywhere. People like to make fun of others as if they were born all knowing. It’s a 06 outrage 2 mercury verado 225 outboard motors. Do you feel good putting others down? Does it make you feel better about yourself knowing you know more than someone else about this stuff? This is a forum about boating and I thought it was ok to ask these questions here and maybe get help. Once again, thank you to the one person who took the time to answer something productive and useful. Thought the boating world was different. I’m disappointed. Shame on those who put others down instead of helping.........thx either way...

Check the hose clamp around the throttle body isolator boot. Also check the condition of the isolator boot itself.

There is no standard engine on outboard driven boats. The hull and the engine brand have no connection.

Not being a $smar a$$ # but the boat being a Boston Whaler has absolutely NOTHING to do with a product from an entirely different manufacturer having an issue.
Also you in your original post were very vague. Lots of manufacturers make 225 HP outboards.
If I were you, I would do some self reflecting on that first post and realize that some more pertinent info needed to be given.
Lots of great people here more than willing to help but meaningful on point info is needed.
MY cousins brothers friend Bob don't fly to well here.
Have a great Thanksgiving
