Default Motor hours not even close to gauge? How to know

Looking at used boat, has Yami 225's (2) that when hooked up to Yamaha software show, 451 hours on one and 450 on the other. Yami gauge shows over 2000 hours on both.. Second owner said he did not replace anything.
Which should i believe? Motors look clean.

Well, either the ECMs were replaced, or the Yami gauge was wired such that hours ran up when the key was on, even if the engines (not motors) weren't running.

And likely this second owner has no idea what the ECMs and Yami gauge readings were when he purchased it.

Plug in the computer. Is that the ECM? I’d believe that over a gauge.

Either the 1st owner replaced the engines or just the ECMs as suggested above, but not the older gauge. And gauge hours were run up with engines not running. Less likely both ECMs would be replaced than the engines.

What years are the engines and boat?

I had an hour gauge in my previous boat - it ran about three or four times as fast as it should - never found out why or bothered to try and find out as shortly after fitting it I changed the engine to one that recorded the hours (went from an old school two stroke to an Etec).
So I’d believe what the engines are telling you.

I had a small fire earlier this year a s my hour meter went back to zero. The engines still show the prop amount when I plug them into the laptop. I would go off that

Does an ECM tell you the date that it went in service?
