Default BoatUS/Geico insurance

Buying a 4 yr old CC. Before making my offer, I wanted to get an idea of my costs going in. Called BoatUS to get an idea of cost of insurance about 10 days ago. Got a quote for $1953. They wanted me to secure the insurance, but I told them I didnít have contract yet. I get a contract and all pertinent data, and get a new quote (same boat, engines, trailer, location, etc, but now I have Hull ID # and engine serial #s. ) quote is $2074. I call three days later To put secure the coverage, and Iím told that the $2074 quote is going away. Since I already have another boat insured with them, I get a discount. Quote is now $2600! WHAT??? I tell the rep that is not a savings! He doesnít understand why it went up. Says he will check itís his supervisor and call me back. Doesnít call back and instead sends me a quote for $2,437. How does a quote change like that over 10 days? Are they sharing the airline ticket model???

Boat US used to be competitive years ago. But since they have been with Geico I have found them to be the most expensive and least friendly. I not talking about claims, but if they are as difficult on the front end jus think how they will be later

I switched from GEICO to Progressive this year because, without any claims, they went up $200. Progressive was $300 cheaper.

I just had a similar bizarre Geico experience. Itís like they donít really want your business but will take your money if you make them. No thanks.

I ended up with Progressive as well.

do it online. start a new quote if anything, you should get it back to your original quote. The details of the boat will help in the responses you get here

Where are you located? That’s seem pricey to me,but I’m in the NE with a 45 year old 30’ fly bridge boat and a 20’ new center console so your new CC could be valued 4x what my boats are 😀

Typical of Geico/Boat US. I started with $2,400 a year agreed upon value of 65k in South Florida on my 25’ Competition. I’ve had the boat for 4 years with no claims and this year my policy went up to $4,000 a year. They stated that due to the recent payouts that had to be made in my area they HAD to raise premium.

I got several different quotes all going back to my $2,400 a year I was paying 4 years ago but none will provide me with Bahamas endorsement as the minimum requirement is 26 feet. Even had one company tell me I didn’t need the endorsement because “his other clients didn’t have it and have never had an issue”, quite crazy if you ask me...

For now I’ll stick with them until I upgrade in size then tell them to pound sand.

BoatUS/Geico boat insurance is a complete joke. I had them quote my boat in the spring was $1,710. Called my Insurance broker he came back with 2 other quotes at under $1,000. Dame coverage limits and requirements. My son recently bought a boat and quoted thru Geico. When he flipped out I had him contact my insurance broker and he has now is dealing with them for his homeowners and auto insurance.

Boat US is the worst insurance company you could be with! I was with them for 13 years and they screwed me over after Irma!
Now with Alstate!

Talk to an independent agent who knows marine and will write you a quality policy for cheaper that will pay claims when needed. Geico/boatus progressive, skisafe and the auto insurance carriers writing boats are horrible comes claim time

I have my Onlsow Bay insured with Adam Meyer- Maritime Insurance International in Charleston 843-605-5270. He has been doing this a long time and worth a call. My Travelers policy on my boat is $1300 or so with the multiple boat discount applied.

Progressive has some great rates and my multi boat premium has been going down over the last few years.....sort of unreal in today's world.

So $700 full coverage is competitive for a 23ft bay boat in Louisiana??? The bass guys have been telling me they pay $200 a year for more expensive boats... but that is landlocked and the boating season isn't 12 months.

Geico has always been the highest for my boat, and I mean like 50% more
