Default big outboard rumor mill

...so, finally got so see, and hear, a Mercury 450R up close - starting up it sounded like an old engine with something seriously broken in it. I definitely not gonna repower with that thing.

Anyone heard anything about other 350+ HP naturally aspirated engines in the pipeline?

120mph definitely hurts your ears.

...I prefer an engine running at idle to purr like a cat, not retch like an asthmatic greyhound

I don't have any further details unfortunately.

In my experience that rules out most performance motors. lol

They have been testing 500 and 550 in this platform. Rumor mill is they snap any lower above 500hp. The sport mode is bad ass!

There was talk of a big Honda a year back, anyone heard anything more about that? I would expect Yamaha also would want to fill the gap between the 300 and the 425 at some point.

That would be interesting, but I think they would probably just keep boosting the v8

Anything at that HP level in an outboard is going to sound like a hot rod.

If you’re going big, at least make them worth while.

so you look at a high performance motor and then complain.

unfortunately the options that are currently out are the only guaranteed motors. there will be all kinds of speculations and rumors about what is coming out, in reality we will never know until the manufacturer releases the info. from past experience, they keep it very tight lipped!

in order for a naturally aspirated motor of that output to produce, it needs to breathe... not sure what or why you're after something like that. If you want quieter performance, go forced induction. my inner redneck says they merc's sound good and I'm in the zuke camp
