Boat + motor + trailer to fit 20 garage space?
Just bought a home in Boynton Beach Fla with a 20 wall to garage door space. Looking to buy a used quality boat motor trailer for intracoastal back bay and occasional ocean front use. Budget $15,000. Must have a 4 stroke outboard. Any thoughts?

Describe how you see yourself using the boat... cruising, fishing, kids or not, etc.
You will need a swing away trailer tongue.
Is the garage wide enough to put the boat in on a diagonal? Can you cut and box in an extension into the house from the garage that would allow the motor to go a bit farther back? |
16' boat with fold away tongue about all that will fit. You should be able to find a backwater type skiff for those $$$.
I had a 16’ Cape Horn with a 90 and fold away trailer tongue that fit my 20’ space. Nice rig!
How tall is the garage door? That can be a limiting factor.
A 17 footer should fit with the right trailer. I'd look at used Key West 1720s or Key Largo 176. There's usually a lot of them for sale too.
So I have scout 162 sport fish with 90 Yamaha 2 stroke on the galvanized trailer and from the prop (motor down ) to the end of the swing tongue its ~19.5
key west or key largo as stated might be tight unless you occupy all the space in the garage |
Key West 1720 would be on my short list for sure.
Is the garage divided, with 2 doors or a single door? Can you park it parallel to the back wall? If so now you maybe have 24 feet to play with.
A 17’ Boston Whaler Montauk would fit your criteria.
