Default Cayman 246 SD power F300 or verado 350

I had ordered my robalo a week ago, but had not chosen my engine yet. Being asked to decide already. Anyone with experience on the Cayman 246 SD with the F300 or the verado 350hp. I want to cruise faster and efficient not worried about top speed.

any feedback would be great other than just “ bigger is better”. I know verado has more HP but torque likely less and later in the Powerband since its a I6. Not sure what effect it would have on midrange cruise speed.

I can’t find direct comparison performance reports for the 350 on the Cayman. However, on other boats, the Yamaha F300 is more fuel efficient than the Merc 350.

Now if you’re talking the v8 Merc 300, that motor is about the same as the Yamaha at slower speeds, but is more efficient at higher speeds than the Yamaha.

F300 3.3 mpg

Great info. Now I know what to expect on the F300. Just curious how accurate this is. I had a Hydrasport that according to Yamaha bulletin had a certain top speed and there was no way I was able to reach it.if Anyone has a verado would to love to hear the real world info.

As far as bulletins go, if you duplicate the conditions, duplicating the results should be easy.

Same load, fuel, prop, temperature, and engine height.

There’s not any magic or shenanigans with performance reports. Light boat, throttle down, trim up.

69 mach was dead on when he noted 3.3gph on his response to u. I have an Everglades 243 Signature Series that reflects the same 3.3gph when crusing.
