Default Evinrude 88 SPL won't crank with key pushed in for primer

I'm having an issue with my Evinrude 88 SPL where it will crank fine when I just turn the key, but if I press the key in to engage the primer solenoid, it won't crank. I do hear the primer solenoid clicking open when I push the key in. I'm thinking I have a faulty key switch but wanted to get some other opinions before I buy one, anyone else had this problem before?

You may be killing circuit by pushing in. The chock is usually auto on that engine when it spins over. As I recall the one I had.

Hmmm. It cranks with the key turned to the start position but stops cranking when the key is pushed in to activate the primer solenoid?

Could be a defective key switch. Monitor voltage on the wire to the starter motor relay when the motor is cranking. Should be nominally battery voltage with a bit of voltage loss. Monitor voltage when the key is pushed in. More or less same voltage should be seen at the key switch.

You need a new ignition switch, it’s worn out.

Not sure, no hour meter but it's an oldie but goodie

Thanks for all the responses, I measured the voltages and it's not sending voltage to the starter with the switch pushed in, I can hear the primer solenoid clicking open but that's it, I'm going to go ahead and order a new switch.
