Question Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2020 -- Lots of noise, any facts?

Since there are people that come to FLIBS from all over the country... makes sense for it to be in the main board... I'd think. Sorry if not.

So, I've been getting lots of emails from FLIBS saying, essentially, "It's happening... and here are all the safety things we're doing, etc. etc. etc."

I've been talking to different companies that usually attend and all three have said, "I don't see it happening".

So... what's your take. Happening or not happening? FLIBS brings in piles of money at multiple levels... will they kill it? Will they scale it back... what do you think?

(For the record: I haven't missed a show since moving to FL.)

I know SeaVee is supposedly unveiling their 450Z at this years show. Iím betting it happens but in a very reduced capacity and probably only outside venues.

Yup, I was also spammed with their emails, broward county won't let it happen or they open the floodgates for all gatherings, my bet is it's virtual UNLESS there is a vaccine out.

The are allowing 13k, or 20% capacity, with distancing, masks, etc. at Hard Rock. IMO, most FLL boat show vendors will not show up for 1/5 the customers.
Maybe by boat show time it's better and more can go, I hope so, but even 50% is a massive hit.

Broward County is going to have a TON of explaining to do if they do allow FLIBS, but the schools are still closed.

Not seeing it, they will keep saying it’s on to keep vendors money as long as possible.
My favorite time of year, doubt I’ll go even if it’s open.

Show opens means tax dollars. Irresistible.

Closing schools might save money for the county. At the expense of others.

Yeah a few may die but think of the economy.

A few have died. Of some respiratory disease.
No boat show.

Anyone over age 65 should stay home. Rest of us, all clear. Open the damn boat show.

Right now it is on. City is wondering if it is a good idea. Vendors and boats pay a lot of money to sit there. The value of that is less if attendance is way down.

TrawlerFest is still a go in Baltimore Oct 6. Totally different scale but I think that is first boat show that is scheduled and so far a go.

Talked to a friend that works for a large yacht manufacturer. His company is not going and he said none of the mfgs of larger yachts are going.

But I'll still be there if it opens.

Bars in FL. are closed, including Ft Lauderdale. How do the politicians explain allowing a boat show with thousands attending to be ok when the local pub owner has to stay closed.

I am not disagreeing with you but they may be thinking the boat show is mostly outside open air. Most bars and pubs are inside with closed air systems.

Usually they start setting up floating docks 1-2months in advance. Haven't seen any action yet. If half the vendors don't go that would give the vendors who do go a lot more opportunity to maybe reach out to people who otherwise wouldn't be looking if their first brand pick was there.

PS- if you saw fort lauderdale beach last weekend you would ask yourself "what pandemic?"

I've been getting the emails too. Because of the layout of a boat show, it's hard for me to envision getting the proper social distancing on the docks and in the tents. Can they and will they enforce wearing masks. I believe events can be held safely. Of course the people that attend these events must take individual responsibility and wear masks and practice social distancing. I've been to Disney and they do it right by limiting the number of guests, everyone wears masks, proper social distancing. There hasn't been an outbreak traced back to Disney or Universal.
