I get the difference between compression cam latches and slam latches and that generally compression latches are more water tight.

I am increasingly frustrated with the compression latches on my forward lockers and even my large, heavy elevated fish box in the rear. These are the high use storage areas on my boat and also areas not prone to lots of water as they are not on the deck. The compression latches are always coming loose, not quite catching correctly, and god forbid you close the lid without the latch in the proper open position, you bend the bolt and it becomes a royal pain in the ass to fix.

Can I just substitute slam latches in these several lockers? Is there anything else I might entertain?
