Default new outboard that has been sitting for FOUR years

Is there any reason a yamaha outboard that has been on the shop floor for 4 years ( new and unused) would be problematic?

I can get a reduced cost on twin 150 yamaha that has been in a showroom for four years and they look dusty but ok and come with a 3 year manufacturers warranty.

I bought my 2011 Mercury Optimax new out of the box in 2014. It's been flawless. YMMV.

I bought a single, Yamaha 200 HPDI, in 2005 and it had been sitting in the warehouse since 2002. It was a counter rotating engine so it was kind of an orphan because they didn't have the right hand engine except one that was 2006.

The gave me a killer deal, like under 10K plus 2 extra years of warranty and it was perfect from the day I installed it. If it was still boxed I would not hesitate.

I bought a Yamaha 2S 115 that was in storage for 9 years. Had to break it in and then it ran great. No problems. If yours are coming from a dealership with a full warranty you should be in good shape.

I just bought a new in the crate Yam 150sho. it was made in 6/2018. Was a left over from last year that did not sell. Warranty starts when it was put on my boat. Now, has a whopping 2.8 hours on it. Wouldnt think a 4 yo would be any different.
