Default Dauntless 160 to GW Tournament or other? New boat suggestions.

Love my little Dauntless but my boy is chasing girls now with his friends instead of fish with me.

I'm very surprised but my wife has started joining me on the boat. We bring the big dogs, swim, eat, nap. Very little fishing.

So I have a sale pending on the Dauntless and am in the hunt for a slightly larger boat and probably a dual console with bow seating,

There is a Grady White Tournament 185 locally that looks nice. 2004 Yamaha 150 with very low hours.

Other suggestions for under 20k? How much worse will the DC be vs. center when I do head out into the chop of the bay to fish?

A dc and cc of the same manufacturer are often built on the same hull. The only diff in ride would be if the helm was further forward

the gw is a fine and versatile vessel.

I do like the idea of the bigger Dauntless in it's Ventura DC lay out.

I've never ridden in a DC in any kind of chop. I'm assuming not being able to stand up would give you more of a beating. I put trim tabs on my little Dauntless and I think it took chop very well for its size.

Well, the search is officially on. My Dauntless just went on down the road. Came in to contact the owner of the GW but it was gone in less than 12 hours.

I am happy with what I sold mine for but might hold off a bit to buy unless I find a real bargain.

Used prices are very high.

Congratulations on your sale. If you don't plan long offshore fishing runs a 190 Montauk could be the boat for you. I recently sold our 2009 with a 135 Verado for mid to high twenties. A typical Whaler the 190 was well made and comfortable. A perfect boat for a couple with infrequent guests. For fishing it can handle four anglers with ease. We bought the boat new for $32K so depreciation was, as with most Whalers, minimal. You pay more but you get more, from the boat and at resale. The first person to look the boat over bought with no haggling. We had the same experience when we sold our Dauntless in 2010 after ten+ years of ownership. Just amazing resale on these boats.

Thanks Butch,

My first 160 sold the day I listed it. This one took 3 days. I made a good profit on each. Lots of sweat equity but I enjoy that part of it too.

The GW I wanted sold hours before I could complete my sale and go get it.

It was for sale on FB. It is now for sale in the next town over on CL for $7,000 more than he paid yesterday.

I think I am going to sit out the Covid boat buying frenzy and start looking once all of these impulse buyers start to sell them off.
